  • San Antonio /Fri & Sat 10-15/16

Drove to Raleigh to hop on South West and start my adventure. My neice & new husband met me and they had already checked in as I wasn't arriving until after 8 PM. We grabbed some Mexican food at Taco Paco ( or something like that) and went on to Eckhart Place to settle in.

Sat: Went to Sea World for the day. It didn't open until noon so was nice to sleep in . I did something I swore I wouldn't do , I paid for everyone. Allyson said she didn't mind not going but I knew she really wanted to go as she had lost a lot of weight with her weight loss surgery and she had never been able to fit into a roller coaster before so when I found out they only had $100 I knew I had to just go for it. I was glad I did as we all had a great time on all the coasters & the wet ride plus the shows. They had really changed the Shamu show from when I saw it in Orlando but it was still good. ( not as good as b4) I had been lucky or maybe unlucky to see one of the last performances of the young lady trainer that Shamu drowned. I liked Orlando Sea World better than San Antonio and would probably say if you've been to Orlando you wouldn't miss anything by not going to the one in San Antonio.

Poor Allyson got so sick off of cotton candy. She hadn't eaten it in years and I bet she'll never eat it again. She ate a lot of junk food as we all did but she really paid for it. She has lost down to about my size. In fact I gave her a blouse that I didn't like on me, it looked much better on her.

Afterwards went to Wal Mart to stock up on food and went home where we made sandwiches for supper. Everyone was pooped except me as they took turns pushing me around in the wheelchair. The only good thing was we got into all the rides by going in the back way and there were no waiting lines for us. Even got front row on the coasters ( much to my dismay) I just kept my eyes shut. I'm definitly not as young as I used to be.

      Attack of the Ostrich!!

I was just checking here and I saw I didn't finish my report!! Boy what a slacker I am. Sorry I will try to do better!!

It's no secret that I love zoo's and aquariums. Kelli wanted to go to the caverns and they were across from the animal park. A tip: do the cavern first and then drive the Wild Animal Park as much as you want. It's different everytime.

I just loved the wild animal park!! The first time thru , the zebras were very active and aggressive. Dear god, they have big teeth!!! They stuck their heads in the window to get the food. Kelli got a little apprehensive.

We went around again. This time the zebras were in a pack and were not coming to the cars. I was having a ball with my camera and not paying too much attention. TIP: Pay attention !!! Here comes the ostrich!! His feathers were flying and he stuck his head in the window to try to grab the nuggets of food and succeeded to rip the top off but didn't get the food, immediatly it stuck it's head in and grabbed the whole cup of food!! Then, blam , he stole my watch right off my arm!! Kelli was freaking out and telling me to get the he--ll out of here. Forget the watch!! OH no, it's not getting away with my watch!! I saw where it dropped my watch so I backed the car up , took Kelli's food and threw it in the opposite direction . I hopped out of the car (not very smart) grabbed my watch and as many of the beads as I could & hopped back in , just as the ostrich was coming at me. ( No one ever said I was the brightest bulb in the pack) I hope the ostrich was not very happy when the beads he ate came out

Well, this was the most exciting thing that happened to me on this trip.

I did meet up with a girl who lives in San Antonio and she took us all over the place. We went to the zoo and ate where the locals eat.

San Antonio was a beautiful town and was much easier for me to get around than San Francisco. I'd like to go to the hill country sometime, but for those of you who live near San Antonio , you are so lucky!!

Hope you enjoyed the late read!! shaggy

        Shaggy,
You should definitely try to exchange into Animal Kingdom Lodge.
        You will love it.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

What an adventure!!! Loved the read!! Another place you would love - Bear Country - it's in Rapid City. We did this when we were in SD. We flew into Rapid City, & drove to Lead, (Barefoot Condos - only an hr. away). It's a combination drive through animal park, and a zoo for all the baby animals. Had such a great time there. If you're ever out that way..........(as our vacations seem to parallel.........)

Only you Shaggy -- serves the Ostrich right. What a sight that must've been!! Too bad Warner Bros. wasn't there to film their latest Looney Tune!!

Very funny! Many years ago, my mother and I took my then 3 year old son to a drive through animal park in Ontario Canada. After paying admission, they half heartedly tried to rent us one of their cars to drive through. Feeling they were just trying to make more $$, we declined... we were in my mom's fairly new small Ford.
We had a blast. The animals were numerous and active. We were all thrilled and entertained. The monkeys were a riot. Running back and forth on the roof of the car, then sliding down the windshield, finally hanging off the sideview mirrors. Little son had to use the bathroom before we left the park. As we parked at the restrooms, and got out of the car... we were shocked to see that the "cute" monkeys had totally destroyed the top of the car!!! It was when those vinyl roof were in style. Shredded vinyl, huge scratches and gouges in roof! We thought my Dad would be really mad at us (new car), instead calmly called insurance company and informed them someone must have monkeyed around with his car and done malicious damage....
