  • Review Pacific Shores Resort and Spa, Vancouver Island

My husband and I stayed at Pacific Shores as part of a promotion by Aviawest. I was so excited about being able to go to this resort as I had read great reviews about it and the people at the other resort we stayed in as part of the promotion and the saleswoman at the timeshare presentation raved about it.

When we arrived, we were assigned a “hotel unit” which was the B unit. We were able to park right outside of the unit and climbed the 10 steps onto the walkway that led to our unit and the A unit beyond. While on the walkway, you could look right into our unit and the small porch. The room was part condo and part hotel room. It was adequately furnished for a hotel room. The “kitchen” area had a tiny refrigerator and dishes, silverware, glasses, etc for 4. However, there was no sink except in the bathroom and not even a microwave. There wasn’t a place to sit and eat either, except for the plastic chairs and small occasional table on the porch.

We could see into the A unit and it looked lovely, with a nice view of the beach area.

We walked to the beach and our hearts sank. It was low tide and almost as far as the eye could see, there was just mud. It was the last night of an 8 day vacation. I’d expected to be bowled over by this place and I was definitely under whelmed. Not the highlight of the trip by any means. We did not eat in the restaurant or use the spa facilities.

I must say that the staff at check in and check out were very friendly and helpful.

It was cool so the pools and hot tub were not being used. When the tide came in, the beach was very pretty and there were kayaks and canoes available but we did not use them as it was evening.

I was very glad to be able to go to this resort to get a feeling for it. I had hoped to exchange for a week, but I will not be requesting this resort. It is very isolated and the surrounding towns are small. However, we did make a couple of stops during the following day before catching the ferry home. There are many parks with waterfalls, beaches, and old growth forest right in the area. There is also a town with lots of artisans and a small shopping area that promotes its goats on the roof. This area is also rich in wineries.
