when you go on a ts tour. I am upfront from the beginning telling them I have no intention of buying. My fav line is saying I'd be glad to buy if you will sell it to me for what I paid the last time. $500. I also tell them I have a travel forum and I write about my experiences while on my vacations. Then they get nice because they don't want any negative commentary. If that doesn't get me out real quick I start talking about our ts4ms and tug and where do they like to exchange? just to kill the time. shaggy

Another great line is I got in here with a $300 trader. That pisses them off.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

I usually go to the Marriott ones because I like getting the points. Last time I got 15,000 points...
They're pretty good about the situation. We just tell them that we will think about it, and it has always ended there. No follow up calls or hounding.
I do like Franks line though...I can picture their faces when they hear that one.....Angela
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Check Rentals First!
Check out Rentals from RCI and Snap Travel First. I did this before a TS tour at the Vacation Village at Weston Florida. Rentals were about $350 for a 1 bedroom. I asked why would I buy when RCI is renting for less than the MF and then I gave him the print out?
The look on the salesman's face was priceless!
He could only agree with me.

I turn to my wife and ask her to please hand me the makeup mirror from her purse. I then take a long stare in it, look up at the TS person and say "Whew! I didn't think I looked that stupid when I shaved this morning, but I was afraid something had changed since you seem to think I would pay $$$$ for what I can buy on E-bay for $."
That usually ends things real fast.

I kept saying I would only take it if it was for free. Over and over, " only if you gave it to us for free, no there is no amount I would pay for it, free, as in no money." This was in Hawaii, Pahio.
The guy finally got angry and threw us out; we'd only been there 7 minutes and my young kids were pissed because they hadn't eaten enough cookies yet.
I didn't like how I felt and haven't done one since (4 yrs) but the buy one get one Napili boat tour savings of over $200 felt good.

Now thats a good one!
But I bet they would just ask to raise there rental prices to show it is cheaper to buy then to rent.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

I have done well over 20 timeshare sales presentations. I lost count a while ago. I did it because I learned a lot from them at first and it is very easy for me to say, "I'm just not interested at this time."
Now, I mostly do owner updates which are always offered when you check in. The great thing about owner updates is that you don't have to lie or tell half truths at all about what you know or why you are there. They invited you there, they know you are an owner and they position the presentation as a survey or something like that. And, they usually last less than an hour and they don't have to go over the basics of timesharing.
I like doing these meetings because most times I pick up a thing or two about what is going on in the resort or resort group. If you demonstrate a command of what is going on, they usually try their best to not lie to you because they know you will know it.
When they make an outright lie. I slowly start raising my voice. And, when they something really outrageous, I call them out on it and ask them to put it in writing and then I start quoting various statutes that prove what they are saying is wrong. At that point, they back off completely.
This last happened to me at Orange Lake Country Club a couple of weeks ago. The sales guy told me that if you buy resale, all developers charge triple the maintenance fees. I was really nice until that point where I called him out on it. 10 people or more were looking at me as we had this argument. I could absolutely have had the guy fired since in Florida you must be a licensed real estate agent to sell timeshares. I could have just filed a complaint with the Florida Real Estate Commission and it would show up on his record.
The bottom line is that you should have no fear in these tours. They can't take away the free gift from you you stay for the required time. Just tell them that you know that and there is nothing they can do. Some will try to keep you there to waste your time since you are wasting their time. But, all you need to do is stand up and walk away. As long as you stay the required time, you will always get your gift.
