I have rented mobility scooters in Las Vegas, Honolulu, and New York ( 2 times ). New York is the cheapest probably due to the competition. Honolulu was the highest.

I get a heavy duty scooter with a lot of power.

Here is the link to the company I rented from in New York City:

As I said, I met the owner in person and he is a very nice man. The good thing is that he charges just a flat fee of $175 /week with no extra fees for delivery/pickup nor getting a heavy duty scooter.

I strongly recommend gettiing the heavy duty scooter ( wt. limit 450 lbs. ) even if weight is not a problem. The heavy duty scooters are more comfortable and have a lot more power for climbing hills. Even though NYC is not hilly, there are some fairly steep climbs in Central Park.

Hoping this is a ways off for Greg - he's losing weight and doing some water aerobics - should help the mobility but the day will come at some point. We've talked about another trip to NYC but it's really not a car-friendly holiday.

Thanks for any info - I know, John, you've used them a few times in Vegas and whatnot as well.

And sounds like you had a great trip.

Yes, it stays charged for the full day. The scooters I rent will typically go 20-25 miles before needing to be charged. I probably go 5-10 miles in a day. I usually get up early in the morning and go for a spin while my wife is sleeping. Then we both go out together and she walks while I ride. The hardest thing is going slow enough for her so I don't wear her out. I charge it every night in our room. I just automatically plug it in whenever we are in our room. Of course it will vary somewhat due to climbing hills etc. My scooter had no problem running up the hills in Central Park.

I’m lucky enough to be in the Hilton Club once earlier this year for a cousin’s wedding. Its 100% non-smoking policy impressed me the most, so I could spend as long time as I could inside. My aunt hates it when people smoking and will get away immediately, and this policy released me from the need to accompany her out.

It seems you will never encounter any difficulty here, as if the staff has thought of all possible problems and done sth to prevent before you know it. I love the home-made chocolate cookies very much, all for free, and the juice. All in all, the breakfast was great and the hotel wonderful.

I’ve stayed in many hotels in the past years, particularly hotels in the state of Missouri, since I travel there a lot. But none of them is a match to Hilton Club – this is very fair. It deserves any praise.

That would be the case in any public indoor place in NYC. And many hotels have gone "100% no smoking" including in the private hotel rooms.
In fact, as of late May, smoking is now no longer legal even in many OUTDOOR places:

All that I've used stayed charged really well. I usually ask hostess where an electric outlet is and charge it while I'm eating dinner. I probably don't need to but I do it as I would rather be safe than sorry. shaggy

Sounds like a wonderful trip. I've never been to NYC but definitely have it on my list, hopefully next year.
