We just returned Tuesday from spending 6 days in Las Vegas. We were invited by Caesar's Palace for free tickets for the Celine Dion Show and 5 nights for free in the Augustus Tower at Caesar's Palace. We also spent a night at the South Point with everything comped. It had been 2 years since we last visited Las Vegas. We used to go very frequently but stopped going as we far prefer our local Southern California casino resorts. However we will take advantage of invitations to something we really want to see. Our last 3 visits were for special shows, Bette Middler, Barry Manilow, and Celine Dion. My wife is a great fan of Celine so we couldn't pass this up. Her show terminates this month but she will be back in December. I wasn't a fan of Celine, not anything against her, I just didn't know much about her. However she made a believer out of me. Her show was awesome and believe me she sure can sing. She is not so good on the dancing though. Fortunately she doesn't do that much anymore. We had great seats and the show was sold out as usual.
Our accommodations at Caesar's were excellent with a great view of the Bellagio water show and south down the strip. I rented a scooter at the Bell Desk at Caesar's as well as South Point. It was great as I can't walk very well due to severe arthritis in both hips.
We are pretty serious gamers playing slots and Video Poker. We played at the South Point, Caesar's Palace, Flamingo, and Imperial Palace. We actually did the best at Caesar's but overall not so good as the LV Strip is very tight but that is the way it goes sometimes.
One thing that was very obvious is how prices for restaurants have gone up. Some of the prices are ridiculous along the strip like $12 for a hot dog at a food court. Prices are higher than New York City and Waikiki. They are making up for the money they aren't making on gaming. The food prices don't really bother me as we get it all comped but it can definitely be a concern for others, especially families. There were a lot of people milling about but not that many actually playing. That is so much different than years ago when people lined up to play. One interesting place we ate breakfast was at the Hash House a GO GO in the Imperial Palace. They have good food with very large portions but is is very noisy. I recommend it if you don't mind blaring noise.
The weather was very hot, 114 on Thursday. We were caught in a rain downpour Sunday evening when coming back from the Flamingo to Caesar's.
All in all we had a good time and the Celine Dion show was well worth the trip.
