  • Another Red Neck Weeked -- Fanfest Aug 1-4 -13 Charlotte, NC

Thurs afternoon, Aug 1st took off to Charlotte to go to the Wrestling Legends Fanfest at the Hilton University Place. When I arrived I was immediately embraced by my friends that I haven't seen in a long time. Plus my regular friends were there also so no matter what happened I was going to have a great time. I was looking forward to the Q & A but I was offered 2 tix to go see Kenny Chesney so for 50$ Kelli & I took off to see the concert. Ate supper at Quaker Steak & Lube ( lots of nascar memorabilia ) but the burgers were really, really bad this time and the mgr comped our dinner. I usually don't complain but DRY cheeseburgers & greasy onion rings don't get it. I did pick up a bottle of bbq sauce to give to Jim Cornette later on that night as he loves it. The concert was great but I couldn't see well as everyone stood up. Why, tell me why, do people on the front row have to stand up???

Got back to the hotel and luckily the 2nd q & a was still going on. Stayed up till 2 am talking to my friends and hanging with the wrestlers.

More to come, got to pick up Kelli.

Friday was a fun day. Got tons of autographs & pics and ran into some friends of Al's ( my very short -lived boyfriend) It got old being asked how we were doing and biting my tongue I would say it didn't work out. He's not who I thought he was. End of subject but it would upset me but by the end of the trip I was glad the relationship was over as my ego was being stroked and found my confidence again. That night was the Hall of Heroes banquet which everyone enjoys and is the highlight of the trip but not this time. Tony Atlas was at our table and he was who we requested but OMG he turned into the biggest ass I've ever seen. He would only talk to KElli & me and ignored the remainder of the table. He made rude remarks about other wrestlers and fell asleep and when they introduced him he didn't stand up as he was asleep and no matter how hard I shook him or hit him I couldn't wake him up. Yes, I hit the former Mr USA!! and I'm still living to tell about it. Immed after the dinner he took off without taking pics. Oh yeah, he refused to stop eating when the photographer came to take our group pic. I got him to put his fork down, yes I punched him again. A lot of people at our table complained about him and he won't be allowed back next year. It's a shame as he is usually a really great guy. I spent a lot of time with my friends and trying to escape the clutches of OX Baker. Now that man is a hoot. He is so evil looking but what a real sweetie he is.

            Sat: Karioke and more autographs

Slept in late, 2really late nights in a row bout did me in. Today was Kelli's day. Her wrestling buddies Damien & Lodi were there and they were as happy to see her as she was to see them. She was wearing her Lodi hat and he loved that and introduced her to the rest of "Raven's Flock" They named her a lodette for Lodi. She was wearing a HelloKitty Kiss shirt and Damien wanted it as he is a huge KISS fan. Told her about his Kiss bedroom & pj's when he was little. Where he would put the shirt on would be useless. His arms are bigger than Kelli. During the break a bunch of us went to Boardwalk Billy's where I had the drunken chicken and it wasout of this world!! Lots of wrestlers were there and I was hit on by Wild Bill Rich ( TOmmy "Wildfire" Rich) tried to pick me up. If he had any idea how much older I was he might of left me alone.

Afterwards was karaoke and Jim Mitchell " The Sinister Minister" was the host. He truly looks like a devil , dressed in red with long black hair and beard & wild eyebrows but oh my what a nice guy he is. He could really sing and did a great job. Loved hearing the wrestlers sing and our friend Tonya got up & blew everyone away with her rendition of Crazy. The night ended with a duet between Tanya & Jim. He lives in Orlando and works all around there. If you are in the area go check him out. I also won a Mr Wrestling II mask and put it on and modeled it. There is a pic of me wearing it on facebook somewhere. Again, I hit the bed at 2:30.

                      Sunday: The final day:

Slept in, packed up, checked out, put the stuff in the car and was ready for the rest of the day. Went to the first autograph session and then headed over to a Mexican restaurant for lunch I like the Hyatt as it is so convenient and you don't have to move your car as you can walk across the bridge and have access to shops and restaurants. After a delightful lunch with my friends we headed to the final wrestling matches. They were off the chain and we had fun yelling for Damien & Gunner. We were walking out and was stopped by the video crew and they told us how much they loved watching us and look for us every year. They love the fact that we bring signs and we jump up & down and generally act like fools. Guess we'll have to buy the DVD set. We were all over the place, saw us on the news, videos, and pics from photographers .

After the matches we were telling our friends goodbye and when I looked over I saw Ric Flair's exwife Beth. Her son Reid died this year from an overdose and she was there to give a 2500 scholarship to the most promising upcoming wrestler. I went over to speak to her. When I introduced myself & Kelli she immediately knew who we were as I had sent very heartfelt note about how nice he had always been to Kelli over the years and would go out of his way to make her feel special. Her eyes welled up with tears and told us she had wanted to meet us, esp Kelli . There were hundreds of well wishes but somehow something I had written touched her. She knew immediately who we were and gave me her email addy and told me to please stay in touch. I got all teary eyed too as we hugged goodbye.

After I got home I was surprised to find a fried request from Jim Mitchell, the Sinister Mitchell. Turns out he wanted to meet me but had so much going on with the Karioke that we never connected. Who knows, there may be a trip to Orlando in the future. There's always next year. AL who???

It's too bad your Tony Atlas dinner was such a bust, but sounds like it was a great trip all in all. Thanks for the report!
