  • Review of Mountain Run At Boyne

My wife and I spent a week at Mountain Run at Boyne resort in Boyne Falls, Michigan and I thought I would share a review. We booked a 2 bedroom unit for July 22nd through July 29th 2006. We got there at 2:30 PM and were able to check in right away with no problems. We didn’t find the concierge very useful. He had information about the resort but was limited in his knowledge of the area. This was the second summer of use for the unit we had so the furnishings, appliances and overall condition of the unit was excellent and it showed no signs of wear. We were very pleased with the condition of whole unit it was spotless. The grounds are well landscaped and groomed.

The kitchen was stocked with all the cooking and baking equipment you would need to prepare most meals. The kitchen also had a bar with 2 stools. There was a stacked washer and dryer in the foyer which is shared with the other unit. The living room had a fireplace, sleeper sofa, 2 chairs, 2 end tables, a coffee table, a television, a DVD player, and a balcony. The dining room table was good size with lots of elbow room and had six big chairs. The master bedroom was small and had a king size bed, a television, a radio/CD player, a balcony, a closet, a large master bathroom with an over size jacuzzi tub, and a separate shower stall. The second bedroom had a queen bed, television and closet. The second bathroom had a bath tub/shower. There was a vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board in the unit.

At the club house there is a pool, hot tub (with supplied towels), a room with video games and a room for board games. It also has a nice exercise room with new equipment: 2 tread mills, 2 stationary bikes, a weight machine, free weights, and TV.…very nice. There are several board games that can be checked out to take back to your room. There are gas grills located though out the resort. There are children and adult activities each day.

There are 192 units at the resort with half being one bedroom lock out units and the other half are 2 bedroom units. In the area of the resort our unit (1624) was in the one bedroom units faced the front of the resort and had a view of hills and a sunrise. The 2 bedroom units faced the back of the resort with a view of woods (about 20 feet from the balcony) or a view of a ski hill.

Mountain Run is next to Grand Mountain Lodge and Spa Resort which is owned by Boyne USA Resorts. People staying at Mountain Run can use most of Grand Mountain amenities as a guest with no charge and get discounts at some of the shop and restaurants. Some of Grand Mountain amenities are at the beach on Deer Lake which includes canoes, paddle boats, sail boats and lounge chairs. There is also a 7 holes putting golf course very small but fun. At the resort there is a large outdoor hot tub and heated pool. On Fri. and Sat. 5:00 to 9:00 there is a ski lift running up to the Eagles Nest Restaurant. At the restaurant you get a nice view of the area. There is also an indoor water park and I think the price is $25.00 for people staying at Bluegreen.

There are a few things we didn’t like. The garbage/trash container was in the entry of the building. When walking past the container you had to hold you breathe. The master bedroom was too small. You had to be careful walking around the bed not to stub your toes. The lighting in the living room was very dim for reading. The water at the pool was cold for a heated for a heated pool. Also there was no decent Internet access.

We did several things at the resort and in near by towns. I will post some pictures of the resort and some of the things we did. Over all we had a very good time and would recommend the resort to others.

I hope you were able to get to Charlevoix and Traverse City (which is beautiful this time of year). In the fall, the drive along the western coast of Michigan is gorgeous.

I live about 2 hours south, and yet, do not make it up that way as much as I would like to.

Vanessa, I can't wait to see your photos and hear what you did in the nearby towns. What about eating places? Did you eat at The Eagles Nest and how was it? How about BRI (Boyne River Inn), did you go there for their Friday night fish fry? We will be there in October. Can't wait!

        Thanks for the great review.
