  • Made it to Flagstaff!

Well, we made it to Fairfield Flagstaff after a great flight from Houston. The trip in Flagstaff was made even better when I went to pick up the rent car at Fox Auto Rental. I had reserved a nice car but the agent offered me a 4x4 SUV for $50 more a week. It was a new Jeep Commander. My DD was happy to have a vehicle she wouldn't be embarassed in. Merry Christmas!!

After that we got on I-17 heading north and ran into traffic. So we ended up stopping and getting something to eat. There was a Famous Rays pizza at the center and my DS and I ate some very good NY style pizza. There were a couple of young girls working there that I swear were from Frank's neighbor. In fact one of them knew him (Ha!).

The unit we have is a 2BR, 3TV, 3 DVD unit. Very nice. Every thing that is supposed to be there is. Since this is our very first TS stay, I have nothing to compare it to but this would be a nice 2BR condo to live in.

There is a porch looking at the mountain as well as a clean hot tub at 100 degrees. I hope to use it tonight.
Last night was down in the low 20's so the hot tub will be great.

It's Saturday morning and I'm at the activities center using the computer while the rest of my family is sleeping. I ordered a Starbucks Chai Tea latte and am happy.

I have taken some pictures but I don't know if I will be able to post them before returning.

Anyway, Flagstaff had a couple of inches of snow here before we arrived and it's really beautiful. The resort sits at the foot of the San Francisco Mtns.

I'll try to update this thread during our stay. Merry Christmas and a happy holiday!!!

Sounds GREAT! You may need that jeep...
You will love this trip and be hooked forever after.

KenH ( gophish ) had the same type of unit when he was there in the spring with a hot tub. Does yours have a loft too? http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...ight=flagstaff

I'm sorry. For NY Style pizza you must come here to NY.

    Have a great Christmas Mike!

I am sooo jealous of you and everyone else who headed out on vacation for the holidays. Raining and gray here and DH is forcing me to pick up all my appetizer fixins at the store. BLAH!

Waiting for pictures upon your return. Eat some Jack in the box for me.

Welcome to AZ, Mike! Glad to hear you arrived safely!

As for NY Pizza in AZ, I gotta agree with Frank!...if you found anything that reminds you of NY pizza here in AZ, you are very lucky indeed, we have yet to find something that comes somewhat near to it, yet alone close....Ray's Pizza eh?...do you know what exit you found this along I-17? Gotta locate that one, and give it a test run!

        Stay warm!
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

            Mike,

Congrats on your first timeshare stay. Once you get use to them, it's real hard to go back to hotels.

Have a wonderful trip, and be sure to take lots of pictures. The snow, and the mountain view, sound lovely.

BTW, I have to agree with the others, for NY pizza, you need to be in NY.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

              Mike,

I can't believe this is your FIRST t/s stay!!! We should have a contest to see if anyone else can get to 1300 posts without ever staying in a timeshare.

Sounds like you've picked a terrific first place to stay. Keep us posted, and have a terrific holiday@!!!!!!!

We are happy reading your report so pictures can come later when you have more time. Enjoy your vacation and enjoy the nice condo too. Your family will never want to stay in a hotel room again after being so spoiled!

                  Mike,

Congratulations, Best Wishes to you and yours.

I also find it hard to believe 1300 posts and it is your first TS stay.

You will need to work towards at least a 1:25 ratio from here on out, but you seem a chatty person so perhaps 1:100 works.

Again, congratulations. Just don't accumulate too many timeshares if you like the experience.

                        Bill,

This is a really nice resort. My DW and I walked the resort yesterday and it looks like it is well kept up.

                        Day 1:

Went to the Casa Bonita for lunch. My DS says this is a place that is mentioned on South Park TV show. He took pictures for his friends to see.

Afterwards, we cruised through Northern Arizona Univeristy campus. My DD is looking at colleges. Very nice. Has a student population of about 16000. Then we went shopping in the histronic Flagstaff town district. It had lots of fun shops and eating places. If you are named Babbit, you must be one of the town owners because there were about 4 or 5 different businesses that are owned by the Babbit family, from car dealerships, to outdoor recreational stores, to sporting goods. Lots of people crusing and shopping there.

Then Saturday night we went out to Lowell Observatory for the star party. It opened at 7:30 pm and we were a little early and had to stand out in the cold, about 25 degrees. I wore some dress pants and my legs about froze to death. My DD kept telling how warm her legs were with her long underwear pants on.

Anyway, we listened to a lecture on different star consolations and the historic Christmas and other legends that developed from them. The talk was very informative and fun. Only 30 minutes, but the blood started to flow again.

Then it was out to wait in line again to look through a 110 year old telescope, called the Clark Telescope. It's supposed to be oldest one in the US. Fortunately, the night was crystal clear and millions of stars were visible. We had a lot of fun talking with people in line and got our respective 15 to 20 second look at one of the stars. Ultimately, it look liked a very bright white dot.

Back to FF and relaxation. I was soooo pooped that I went to bed and my family stayed up and watched a movie. All in all a great day.

I attribute this mainly to 2 Woot offs and lots of funny and fun interaction with all of my friends here.

Glad it's working out to be such a nice vacation for you. There's nothing quite like the feeling of a well planned out trip that lives up to your expectations! Enjoy!

No, I won't let them catch me!

Today, Christmas, we went to the Grand Canyon for the day. We left Flagstaff about 8:30 am and made it in less than 2 hrs. We got there before the maddening crowds arrived. We ended up walking the Rim Trails for 3 or 4 miles. Ate lunch at the Maikaw (I think) lodge and then my wife and DD walked another trail for a mile or so. That pretty much took up all day.

The canyon was awesome as those of you who have visited know. There was a little snow on some of the side walls but for the most part, the snow had disappeared from the main part of the canyon.

Tomorrow we're off to stay at Fairfield Sedona until Friday. I will have to grease myself up again so that the sales people can't catch me there!

I hope all of you are having a great holiday! Ciao! (Thanks for you Frank).
