At 10 Essential Road Trip Gadgets - Switched. Gadgets. Tech. Digital Stuff for the Rest of Us. are gadgets supposedly we must have when traveling.

Of those listed, we only used number 8, the power adapter. As a mater of fact, we carried 3. Had 2 in use constantly while on the road. 1 was a backup.

That was really handy. We powered the mini-fridge, charged up camera batteries, charged cell phone, operated my C pap breathing machine, and operated a battery charger to keep the backup truck battery fully charged for use overnight when camping.

I really feel old now. Maybe I should just stop traveling since I haven't used any of these items.

That 9 week road trip was for seeing our country. We looked forward to getting away for awhile.

I too must be old as most of the gadgets hold no interest.

Perhaps they do not know the meaning of "essential" ? I've never traveled with any of the 10 and don't plan a trip using any of them in the future.

I do travel with my GPS. It has led to less arguements...

I carry my GPS unit for my rental car and love it. It's nice to pre-program it for your visit to a new place. I program our resort, places we want to visit, and lots of other stuff. Also, the GPS has restaurants and other points of interests in memory to help find things in a unfamiliar location.

On a recent trip to downtown Baltimore with my wonderful hubby, I found out he doesn't listen to the gps giving directions any better than he does me.

The other thing I learned is that the gps has no discernment concerning bad neighborhoods

GPS in car systems are becoming a favorite target for car break-ins. If you have one, keep it out of sight.

Use the GPS system in the car, the DVD player in the head rest looks cool. Don't think I'll use any of the others though. That laser jammer is likely to get you pulled over and have your car searched.

We got a GPS for our trip to Washington DC. It saved us a lot time wasted time trying to find places. Ours gives listings of gas stations, restaurtants, sites of interest(even phone numbers to points of interest) .....etc. Traveling without it would be hard for us now.
