We did the "hard hat" tour instead. Mike, I am glad you enjoyed your trip to Las Vegas and walked away with your winnings too. I love the shows and Las Vegas is a great place for that.
We stayed at the Grand Desert 2 months ago. We had a 2BR unit in the new tower 3 on an upper floor. The resort was very nice. The unit was in immaculate condition and we had a view of part of the strip. We used the shuttle to Harrahs a lot. Though they say the last shuttle back is at 10:00 pm, there is service back to the resort up to 12:30 am. If you are later than that then just take a taxi which is cheap.
Four of us went to dinner at Ellis Island based on people's recommendations and proximity to the resort. The only good thing about Ellis Island is I won $350.00 while waiting to be seated. My nephew and I had the prime rib. It was mediocre at best and the service was horrendous. They tried to overcharge us for stuff we didn't eat. We talked to the manager and he took off the extra charges. I did have their Root Beer and it was OK but nothing outstanding. The Root Beer is included with the dinner. If you want good food, service, and ambiance then Ellis Island is NOT the place to go. If you just want cheap then it is probably OK.
Yes, it was a good dam tour, with lots of dam questions, lots of dam tourists, had a great dam tour guide. Eveyone on our dam bus got into the dam tour with lots of dam jokes.
When we visited Vegas with my parents on 2005 we had a chance to visit the Hoover Dam. Being an Electrical Engineer who had done his internship at a hydro-electric power plant in India, my dad was thrilled to take his grandson on a tour of the facility and explain a lot of the things in there. I would have no clue what all those things were.
They both had a great DAM time in there!

The resort is a beautiful place to stay, but beware of the sales department! We got scammed. We thought we were trading one timeshare for another!! Only to find out that we had bought another one! Now there is a hold on our account and we cannot use the points we've paid for.
