Sat July 14th was Kelli's bd which we celebrated by going out for dinner for a steak at Texas Roadhouse which was attended by friends and neighbors. The mgr of the bakery at Harris Teeters made Kelli a gorgeous cake shaped like her fav race car driver , Jimmy Johnson. The detail was awesome and it tasted as good as it looked.
Sun we slept in , aaahhhhhh!! then headed to Charlotte to go to the factory outlet mall, Concord Mills, and to see the broadway version of Lion King. I really didn't want to walk the mall but it was her day. All of a sudden she said Mom, look !! Hendrick Motor Sports tours (Jimmy Johnson team) so off we went only to find out it was closed. We drove by the race track and lo & behold a tour of the track!!! Unfortunatly for Kelli we just missed the tour by 5 mins, but there was another one in an hour. We signed up and I was delighted as I did not want to go to the mall as my legs were hurting. She went nuts in the gift shop and then it was time for the tour. It only cost $5. and was really worth it. The Richard Petty experience was going on and it was fun to watch the cars race around and then it was our turn. We were in a van (huh?) with 15 other people going around the track at a whopping 75 miles an hour. It stopped on the bank and we all leaned to the left (weird feeling) Anyway, for $5 it was a fun way to spend an afternoon and I didn't have to walk the mall
On to the Lion King at Blumenthal Arts Ctr downtown. It was wonderful!!! I am glad we went (Mom paid for the tix for her bd) She got her Lion King Shirt (she must have a thousand shirts) On the way home we stopped at the Waffle House , or as we call it the Awful Waffle for breakfast . Very good day!! shaggy
