  • Best Branson Shows

What are your favorite shows in Branson...and why? I'm heading there in a couple of weeks, and I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I have been to the website www.reservebranson.com and done quite a bit of reading. I have a few ideas of shows I'd like to see, but haven't made any definite decisions yet.

    Thanks,

    Steve

As I said Over Yonder this week, or maybe it was here, who knows!!!, I hate to recommend shows because everyone has their own favorites. We do. All I can say is that the level of talent is probably much higher than you are anticipating (if you have never been here before).

Pick shows that you think would appeal to your tastes/era, and you will not be disappointed. It seems like almost every time we go to a new show, we have a new favorite. Well, not always.

Someone recently told me their wife was anxious about their Branson vacation because she does not like Country and Western. Relax. We are not all Country and Western hicks. Some of us like Bluegrass!

    Just kidding.

Here's some Branson sites. I don't test them every day, so can't guarantee if they are all working. Try Missouri Bargains first. In addition, folks seem to be pleased with 2 For 1 tickets, located at 76 and Gretna.

Drop me an email when it gets closer and maybe we can go out on the lake, or play golf, or go out to lunch/dinner.

        Some favorites and why:

Shoji Tabuchi, ok I know it sounds strange, a Japanese violin player, and his is the most expensive show in Branson, but the cost is still cheaper than Vegas! His show is top-grade. When he plays certain songs on his violin, I can close my eyes and hear it singing to me. He also has great dancers and a variety of songs, so if you don't like one, you'll probably like the next.

The Haygoods, even though I'm "grandma" age, I still enjoy watching these "youngsters" brothers ranging in age from early to late 20's with one younger brother and a younger sister. They are "high" energy, have great voices (especially like Dominic) love the "acrobatic dancing" they do during their songs.

The Duttons, haven't seen them for a couple of years, but a great family show with very talented members singing and playing a variety of instruments. If you are a "family" going be sure to ask about their family pass, one price for 2 adults and all children under 18.

Red, Hot & Blue (don't know if they are having a show now), great songs from the past (they sings sets in decades).

Jim Stafford, an oldie but goodie.

        Just my opinions, of course.

          Gilley's Opener

We went to Gilley's season opener last night. We always figure we are not going to enjoy it, we just go along with our Great Uncle and Great Aunt. We do not really appreciate sitting in the VIP 3rd row.

But, like always, we did enjoy it.

They have reworked it and although it was like their dress rehearsal, it is a very good show. The main change is a new backdrop, with projections being shown on it. In the first half it had giant live shots of Gilley and in the second half of the second half it was Urban Cowboy images.

They had two costume changes, from whatever in the first half to tuxes and gowns to Urban Cowboy attire.

Joey Riley and the girls were featured more than last year.

Two of the Hornettes were missing, I guess casualties from Mickey's recent 70th birthday celebration.

Thanks for the additional suggestions, Sandi.

My era is the 1980s...as that's when I was a teenager...and I love 80s music. But I also like some older stuff. Most of the Branson shows seem to be geared more towards the 1950s and 60s...which could be fun. Maybe a show like the Haygoods would be good, though...it sounds like they sing some newer songs.

            Thanks again.

              Hi Jim,

I just noticed that you posted again while I was typing my post. I'm glad you had fun at Gilley's. I have never heard of Mickey Gilley...but I'll check that show out, too.

              Thanks,

              Steve

                Shoji Tabuchi is real great.

                We enjoyed Jim Stafford’s show.

Legends In Concert in Myrtle Beach, a spectacular show. Didn't see it in Branson.

Steve, you are in for some fun if you don't know who Mickey Gilley is!! Also go see Yakov Smirinoff, early morning show. You will come out of there feeling great!! Shoji, was my very fav. Be sure to check out the bathrooms. I am probably the only one who didn't like the Jim Stafford show. shaggy

Ok, let's so the math. Let's use 1985 as the base year. I suppose you need to be 50 before teenage years become nostalgic.

So, you're generation should expect a Branson show around 2015.

                          The 80s Generation

You all now know why I don't know what to see in Branson.

And actually, I won't even be 50 yet in 2015.
