I had promised Kelli next time she had 3 days off we'd go to MB. Got up early to take the dogs to the vet, get Kelli's paycheck and off we go. Gee, I forgot what a long trip it was!! It took me 5 hrs because I stopped to take a break in SC and deceided to play the SC lotto where I promptly lost my $20 . Got to Towers on the Grove. It's a brand new hotel (only opened up last month) and I got the mgrs special. $79 2br condo ocean front. Altho I liked the view I didn't like the unit as it was very dark and masculine. It had nice amenities, leather furniture, hot tub, kitchen, lazy river, etc. The price was excellent. IT was in NMB near all the shag clubs. We walked on the beach, made reservations at the Carolina Opry and headed to Hoskins where we had the fried chicken special for $6.oo I thought the seafood plates were too pricey, they have really gone up but the family cooking is still delicious and affordable. Off to the Carolina Opry to see Good Vibrations. Kelli really wanted to see All That. They were the cloggers on America's got talent that came in 2nd place. I was chosen along with 2 others to play trivia. I won and got 2 free tix. Even if you lost you got free tix. I answered the questions before they even gave me the multiple choice . Who was "That Girl" - Marlo Thomas and what was the name of the Elvis movie with co star Ann Margaret. Viva Las Vegas. Hung around to get pics and went back to unit. Too tired to go to the shag clubs.

Day 2:
Woke up still tired. Very cloudy day so we walked on the beach and then headed to Calabash for lunch. Ate at Ella's ? Has been there forever and was recomended by another tugger so tried it out. During the week they have a choose 2 for $5.75 Kelli got double order of shirmp. I got shrimp, flounder and for $5 more I got oysters. Oh my, it was all so delicious, best being the oysters and the hushpuppies. I could live without the fish. By now it was time to go to Barefoot Landing to do some shopping. I found a native american store where I picked up a lizard welcome sign, a metal kokopelli wall thing and some coasters. Koko had the same color of blue on him so that was a must. For supper we had a cheesburger from the OD Arcade & Bar/ This is another locals place. BTW, when we went by Hoskins at lunch time, the line was down the sidewalk. It's like that every day, so you see I'm not the only one who likes it!! Headed back to Carolina Opry which we enjoyed very much. Hung around afterward for pics, etc. and went back without stopping at the shag clubs. I just couldn't keep my eyes open.

Last day/ Bad
Had an early wake up call to go to the Wyndam presentation but they gave me a late checkout of 12"30. I thought I'd be back in time to take a nap but you can read about the fiasco on TS Horror Stories. Darn, I know better to act interested. Finally got out at 12:30, no time for a nap so picked up Kelli and went back for lunch at Hoskins for meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, cabbage and butter beans. Kelli wasn't feeling well and didn't eat much. I switched hers to a cheeseburger with no success. She felt nauseated . Yhe only good thing was it poured rain while I was in the presentation but cleared up for most of my drive home. Afterwards I went looking for a shaggers license plate which I found at Becky's Memories. She is a local artist who does mostly scenes from NMB and shagging paintings. She has an eye for the cutest stuff. I found my license plate and a tshirt so I was a happy camper. The lady who was working there started talking and about an hour later I finally left. It was like we had known each other forever. She used to be married to the national shag champion. I knew his reputation. He is really fantastic. She's like me and can't shag any more either. She has bad knees and I have bad legs and back. It's still fun to watch others dance and listen to the music. If I had any more time I am sure we'd gone out to lunch or the shag clubs together. It was a very pleasant way to end the trip.
I did learn a few things: I need someone to help me drive that far, I need more time than 3 days, and stay away from Wyndam presentations cause I want one.

You sure pack a lot into 3 days Shaggy, I'm exhausted just reading about your schedule (and hungry too). I'm so envious that you can get seafood for around $10, wow.
Your post made surprising?? reading until I checked Shagging - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for a definition. I only knew one type of shag and it wasn't a North/South Carolina dance or a baseball term .

Carol, that's the only kind of shagging I was aware of too. I kept thinking, "shag CLUBS"????? what in the world......

Ah, but you aren't from the Carolinas! My mother grew up in NC and whenever I'm going to be in SC or NC, tells me to go shag!
Dancing, folks. Might it be called The Carolina Shag? not sure.
Shaggy, you DO pack a lot in! No wonder you were so tired!
Appreciate the recommendations, too.
Glad you got away, sorry it was so exhausting.

View the Videos!!
If you will go to Carol's link The one that is the NC /SC dance you can stroll down and see video of the dance. I was never quite that smooth because of my leg, car wreck, let's face it I wasn't smooth at all but I sure enjoyed it and had lots of fun. I like the newer music ( not new - really) but bands such as Craig Woolard, Band of OZ, Chairman of the Board, Coastline Band, etc. It's so happy and takes me right back to the beach!! shaggy

Shaggy and Carol, thanks for posting these links. We've only lived in the western NC mountains since '97 and we didn't grow up in the south. So I've never seen anyone dancing like this in a club. But most locals here, who vacation out at the beach, love the shag clubs. Now that I've watched the video clip, I understand why. What fun!!! Thanks for sharing.
You know, the rain and fatigue notwithstanding, it doesn't really sound like a yucky trip!

Well, thank gawd you all cleared up the shag definition thing! I was thinkin' we must have lost our cutting edge status out here in Ca. since we don't have clubs for that sort of activity....well not that I'm aware of anyway. Now dance clubs, heck yeah, those we got.
What a jam packed 3 days, Shaggy. But I won't sympathize with your paltry 5 hour drive. That barely gets us into the next county out here in the west. The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves”- Lincoln
