research do you do for your trips? When I go to an area I've never been to before I am always searching for neat things to do. I researched and asked questions adnauseum here and on tug for my trip to Canada till you guys were sick of me!! Even tho I know Myrtle Beach like the top of my hand I have looked for deals, new shows, etc.

I have gotten better about leaving time for spontainaity. I know some of my coworkers don't do anything before they go, they just wing it. I wish in a way I was like that. shaggy

    somewhere in between

I don't want every last detail as we don't really schedule much of anything and I do want the surprises.

I do a bit of research to find out the big things - where is the swimmable beach, how close can we get to the volcano, where are the major parks and what is in them, what currency is required, those kinds of things.

I don't ask for dining or attraction suggestions as we mostly like to play it by ear, and don't want to be where everyone else is.

Here's the thing - I guard against having unrealistic expectations by having very few expectations.

I probably do much more than I should, but that is because I am an information junky. As time for the trip approaches, I find myself more and more on the internet looking up stuff about where I am going. It's not that I don't like spontanaity, I do and we try to not overplan our trips, but I hate to miss out on something because I didn't know about it so I search for all the info that can find and squirrel notes away in my folder for that trip. It's an addiction that I'm sure many of you can identify with.

I normally like to do as much research as possible when traveling, especially to a new location. I want to make sure that I am not missing out on anything.

I like knowing which restaurants to eat at, along with what sights to see, and fun things to do.

There are times when I just want to chill out on a beach, and don't really care about anything else. However, most times I like to plan ahead, and have reservations, and a game plan for our trip.....

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I can drive myself insane with trying to get all the information that there is for a travel desitination. But I am trying to moderate. I can make lists of 'must sees', 'must do', 'must eat at', but the memorable vacation moments seem to never be on one of my lists! Am seeking out less info and having more fun these days!

BTW, where do I find out info on the group cruising from Seattle this summer? Since I live in Seattle it would be nice to meet some of you.

          Hope

There is an airporter that goes between hotels and the airport. Here is more information on that.

                  http://graylineseattle.com/airportexpress1.cfm

                  A taxi will cost $35 to $40.

                  Hope this helps.

I normally do research on the history of the forgiven countries that I am traveling to, so that I can have a better respect for the country and the culture as to not to disrespect the heritage and people of that country.

This enables me to have a better understanding and experience of the common folk. This also allows me to be a bit more aware of the historic value and the surroundings that I am going to.

Fore stance an unprepared traveler to Thailand might not know how important the people of Thailand respect their King.

The Thailand people believe that their feet is the dirtiest, so if you where to point your feet at someone when sitting down and crossing your legs (like we typically do in the U.S.A.) that would be the equivalent to saying 'f' you to them.

So if you were to drop their form of money called BAUT that has the kings face is on, and if you put your foot on the bill to stop it from blowing away. You would be disrespecting not only the King but their custom. Witch could land you in jail, but most likely they would understand that you are a foreigner and be taken as just disrespecting the culture.

Yes I do quit a bit of research when I travel to forgiven countries, but very little in the U.S.A.

                        Planner

I'm usually a planner. In fact sometimes the planning has been more enjoyable than the vacation. I don't plan down to every detail, but I like to know where I'm staying, etc.

                        That's just me,

A week before we go someplace, I go on line every day and read the newspaper of the town or city just to keep up the current events.

I research to find all the information that I can and even call the resort - sometimes several times. My coworkers often ask me to locate information for them when they are going on vacation because they are amazed at what I can find. It just takes a little bit of time and planning, but is well worth the effort for an enjoyable time.

I like to research everything too ~~ but that's just me. Especially when we're flying somewhere, don't want to miss out on somethig we really would've enjoyed, just because we didn't know about it. We don't plan out every day of our vacation, just maybe every other day. Planning's half the fun!!
