  • Travel Day From Hell/ Bahamas

This is my 2nd attempt- was almost finished and the computer went off with the bad storm. ( It figures)

THIS IS A TRUE SHAGGY ADVENTURE!!!!

I thought I had done everything right, packed the night b4, set up the cab with Mickey ( my fav cab driver) left early enuff to go thru customs etc.

Mickey is wonderful, have his # if anyone needs him in Freeport!! He was so nice kidding me that I must have been in the tanning bed b4 I came my tan was so dark, nope, only one day out in the sun. He gave me a hug goodbye and said come back soon!! Have a safe trip home. He was just a genuine fellow. Stood in line forever to get seat assignments and checked in. When I got there the agent said : You are in the wrong airport!! Huh? Isn't there only one airport ? Because I was going thru Nassau I needed to go to the local hub which was 10 miles down the road. Back in another taxi and another $10 - now up to $40.

Got there just as the heavens opened up with lightning/thunder . It was the first rain I had seen the whole week and I said , they're crying because I'm leaving I know I was. There was a soccer team being checked in and finally it was my turn!! BANG!!! All the lights went out just as I was being checked in. Almost a half hour later we get power and I just know I've missed the flight. Got thru to customs and had the nicest fellow. He tried to trick me when he asked if I had any sandwiches - no= let me thru with a big smile and come back!! I never knew that there were nice customs agents.

Asked where do I go now after I get my luggage. Outside and down to the next building ( what, no wheelchairs, no help, no nothing? ) It was still pouring down rain and off we went and when I almost was there someone offered to help. NO THANK YOU!! Where was he when I needed him. I was soaked and quickly loosing my sense of humor.

Yay, I was here finally and asked if I had missed my plane." Oh, no, you have plenty of time, it's going to be a good 2 hrs late-you will probably miss your connecting flight in Charlotte. I'll put you on both that flight and the one that leaves at 10PM so you'll get to GBS some time. Crap, I've got someone picking me up. After sitting and waiting I asked them to call my friend as I knew a call on my cell would be expensive. I know the Clt airport very well and realized I may not land close to my next gate and I was right, I asked for a electric cart to meet me as I can't walk very fast. Lucky for me as we had exactly 15 mins to make it. They held the plane for me and made it with no time to spare. Whew!

At baggage claim an announcement said if you don't see your luggage it isn't going to make it untill after 11 on the next flight. . What else would you expect ? Left the information , filled out the forms, gave Kenny a big hug and who else was in the car? Monkey & Mater!! They were full of love and kisses. It was a good night afterall!! shaggy

Glad you made it home in one piece.

By the way, what's up with the GPS's and the Greensboro airport? I was there this weekend and my GPS wanted me to go to places with no road. Luckily there are huge exits that seem to go nowhere but go somewhere.
And I just bought the stupid thing. It's a Tomtom supposedly updated.

Anyway, I was in your hometown for Market America convention and my GPS was lost most of the time. Couldn't find the airport Marriott and had me going down a one way road into a parking lot where I had to turn around and break the law to get out. Yikes!

Next time I'm using a map.

          Oh the joys of travelling.

Chris, they put in a new road and I guess the GPS didn't know it. Next time just follow the signs to the airport and you'll see a sign to the Marriot. Lots of new road construction in GBS. Next time you're here let me know and I'll meet you for a drink. shaggy
