  • Traverse Bay Michigan Tour

During our courtship, we frequented quaint out of the way areas. In celebration of our years together we thought it neatly appropriate to revisit several of them.

This time we took casual drives, taking in areas we haven't visited for at least 50 years. The places have of course grown but remain swell... We were not disappointed.

I'll now disclose a few hide-away secret places. I hope you give some thought to visiting. I'll share several photos as I find time to work them up.

I'm not going to give the name of a prized fishing spot, only a picture (in another post). Family hopes to keep it that way.

      How beautiful!

We've been to Traverse City also and loved it. unfortunately, compared to your gorgeous pics, we were there in March and the lake was frozen. It was strange walking on the sandy beach with snow!

Where did you stay? We stayed at Pinestead Reef.

I'm calling our friend, Dan, the police chief in Harbor Springs. You were having far too much fun there.....must have been something illegal going on!
Harbor Springs is beautiful around Labor Day, and the weather was gorgeous this year. Thanks for sharing!

          Joan,
Caroll lived in Traverse for awhile. We both know that whole region is unbelievable. Winters, we stay away from Michigan though... Too Cold!
We held up with relatives, from Houghton Lake to Traverse, for 3 weeks except nights at Charlevoix.

          Sherry,
Meandering and "J" walking... Dan can tell you there's a lot of that going on.
Harbor Springs is beautiful anytime. Enjoyed that whole region, from there to Leland on the western shore of the Leelanau P.

I have many photos to post, as I find time.

              More Memory Places

Torch Lake - A great lake for swinmming, boating, fishing...
At a roadside market, we picked up black cherry cheese Danish and capuccino for snacking while relaxing here.

Traverse City - What a thriving community.
We drove around and around, reminiscing on our courtship years.

              Note the Thursday morning price.

I know you just got home, but you now could head up to that area before cold really hits. Pack for the cool you had at NR.

Many areas are within easy driving range (no flights or rental cars to fret about).

The intrastate system brings Charlevoix, MI within 14 driving hours of Winston-Salem through pretty. Go around Mt Airy on I-74. Head to Parkersburg, WV (pretty country)... to Columbus and Toledo, OH up US-23 thru MI to Harbor Springs, Charleviox and Traverse City.

Since you've never been, I recommend you also cross the big bridge and visit Upper Michigan. The weather is rather cool from now till the Winter cold, but the air is so nice for breathing.

If you go now, the RED colors will be great up there. You don't see those here. And the leaves should be great all the way coming home, if you take your time.
