  • Mon: Grand Canyon No Rim

Thurs thru Sunday is added in the first post of this trip, don't miss it.!!

Today was the day I was really looking forward to!! Off we go to the No Rim!! Upon paying you drive thru a pine forest. It was much prettier b4 because this time there had been many fires which to me hurt the beauty but Betty really like it because it was nature's way of keeping everything under control. What was really pretty was the colors!! The leaves were at peak with the birch and the others all orange and yellow. WOW!! I forgot to mention it was that way at Bryce and Cedar City. Once there we got our 2br cabin on the rim!! Betty was still upset with Kelli so she chose the room with the 2 bunkbeads and left us with the room with the queen bed. Kelli doesn't like to sleep with me as I snore. I was a little pissed but I didn't want to start anything so I kept my mouth shut. (That's hard for me to do) Later she asked me if we would like the one with the bunk beds as Kelli might like it better. Well, you see Bill is a big (tall) fellow and he couldn't fit in the bunk beds. I just grinned to myself and got the room we wanted anyway!!

We took off to the overlooks as we had plenty of time before going to the chuckwagon dinner. It was absolutely gorgeous . We did the shortest point first taking our times at the overlooks and then going on to the other one which was a longer drive. All of a sudden Kelli & Bill realize it's after 5 and we have to be at the pickup point by 6. Betty panics as we turn around before getting to the surprise view point. All I would tell her was it involved an Angel. When we got back , all a dither, we found out it was an hour earlier than we thought, screwed up on the time change. Messed around, got some stuff and waited for the little train to come and get us. It was easier for me to get up in the engine so Kelli rang the bell all the way to the chuckwagon dinner. We had a $10 coupon so it ended up being around $53 for the both of us. The food was absolutely delicious!! Brisket, (very tender ) chicken, pintos, salad, mac & cheese, etc. Picnic type food plus drinks and dessert. There was also entertainment which I enjoyed as they sang country songs. I knew them all except for the couple that they wrote. They were amazed when they said they were going to sing a song by a guy from Tennessee and I said Tennessee Ernie Ford. I sang all the songs word for word (not loudly) as I didn't want to ruin it for everyone. I CAN'T SING!!!

That evening we sat on the porch outside the lodge with a couple of drinks . The north rim is very different from the south. Only one lodge and a bunch of cabins The view points are not very close so you have to drive but what they lack in quantity they make up in quality. Esp the Angels Window.

TUES: North Rim ^ back to St George

Bill got up to see the sunrise but the rest of us slept in. I wanted to see it but I was scared to attempt to do the Bright Angel Trail in the dark with my bad leg. I did see the sunset the night b4. so I was ok. I learned on this trip just because I had the heart that that was not enuff to make my leg do what I wanted it to.

We ate breakfast in the lodge where we were lucky enuff to be seated by the windows so had a excellent view. The food was better than expected after reading all the reviews from trip advisor. We ordered off the menu instead of eating the buffett.

We packed up the car and headed back to where we left off the night b4, all the way to the end to Angel's Window and the other point. It was unbelievable and we were in no hurry to leave. Kelli was even excited about the view. I had to be helped to the overlook but I made it!! That was to be the highlight of my "non=hiking" There is a reason for being on permanent disability. I did ok after all. We had planned on stopping in Kanab on the way back but we were all exhausted.

      Wed: Zion & Springdale

Took off to Zion but stopped in Springdale to see some cute shops. Kelli got a long gown (in case we go on another cruise) on sale for $20 and I bought some xmas presents and a winter hat. Took the shuttle to the beginning of the trail to the narrows. Bill & Kelli took off and Betty stayed with me where I managed about 1/4 mile ba4 my leg and my back said to stop. I gave her my camera (mistake) and told her to go on and I had planned to ride the shuttle and take pics at the overlooks but then I realized I had given it to her. There was a beautiful sunset and the glow of the rocks were amazing. By now I was careful not to say the word beautiful.

Once we all caught up with each other we went back to the condo stopping to eat Blondies Diner. I enjoyed that meal as well. B & B had homemade turkey & mashed potatoes open faced sandwich and I had my Navajo taco that I had been dying to have. It was different from what I remembered but still good.

We ate at Blondies a couple times and also got some food to go as we stayed at the Desert Pearl Inn which is just a block from there.
