  • Las Vegas Thurs/Fri 7 BJ's / 9 blacks

Thurs morning we checked out and I couldn't wait to get to Las Vegas and have some people interaction but Betty wanted to go to Kayenta (an artist communuity) first so we started out with a delicious breakfast at the Bear Paw Coffee Co which again was highly recommended. Spot on!! Food was delicious and there was a line out the door (for breakfast) so that should tell you something!!

On the way to Kayenta we stopped at a shop that specialized in yard art & interior decor called Dirt Cheap , Mistake, $175 later I had bought the motha of all souveniers. A 4 dimensional copper & brass moon , 2 metal lizards (one eating a bug) and 2 kokopellis for Kelli's room that were #'s 48 (Kelli's fav nascar driver) Another $36 got it shipped home . It arrived yesterday so Kenny will be over to hang it tonight. It will go on the opposite wall of my other huge lizard.

In Kayenta we noticed some metal sculputres out in a field so hopped out to investigate. There was a labryninth (sp) to walk in to find your inner peace . B, B & I walked it ( Kelli is in the car) and I took pics of the whole setup.
On to the artist shops , which wasn't very big but was very unique. I bought a pair of red dangly lady bug earrings as another rememberance. I really needed those

Went on to LV where Marge had secured us a room at the Wyndham/FF Grand Desert. We were on the 9th floor overlooking the MGM/Luxor/Excalibur. We had absolutely no problems and altho I was asked to take a tour I said no as I was only going to be there day & 1/2. We went to Ellis Island to eat & play a little as we were all beyond exhausted. Betty had blackened salmon which she is still talking about to this day. Swears it's the best she has ever had. I had an amazing 12 oz prime rib for $12 that was cooked to perfection . Kelli had the special steak for $6.99 which she said was just ok & I forgot what Bill had. For a Thurs I was surprised that they had a wait (1hr) and when we left it was even longer. I had no trouble finding something to do. I played bj & Betty joined in. I helped her play and when she was up to $14 she walked off a happy camper. I was up $40 when our supper was called.
Bill dropped us off on the strip where we mostly walked around & I played more BJ. Took a taxi back fairly early as I was ready to do it up right the next day.

Fri: We deceided to have breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi on the terrace at Paris. It was something I'd always wanted to do. Betty & I split eggs and bacon & an incredible waffle/crepe with berries and real whip cream. This was the most expensive meal/breakfast I've ever had $70 for the 4 of us but it was worth every penny. After breakfast they wanted to go back and have a 2nd honeymoon and not see Vegas at all!! Screw it, I was tired of trying to please everyone so we bid adieu and I said don't wait up!!

From Paris we hobbled over to Planet Hollywood so kelli could build a Elvis Bear at Build a Bear. I quickly realized I was not going to be able to do much walking so found out I could rent a mobility scooter right at PH from the bell captains desk. It was only $40 and boy was it money well spent. I had it from noon until midnight. FYI, it was top of the line, very comfortable, had headlights, turn signals, horns & a basket. We rode over to Bellagio, Caesars, crossed the street all the way down to the Palazzo stopping to play along the way. We deceided to eat at the Cheesecake Factory where we split the most incredible clam chowder I've ever , ever eaten. Kelli had a cheesburger, and I had a portobella mushroom sandwich. We should have just split the cb as there was so much food and we wanted cheesecake!! I had my mind set on strawberry cheesecake until Rex (our waiter) suggested the prize winning red velvet one. OMG, Died and gone to heaven. This was the most incredible food experience of the whole trip. Cost $45 including a 10 tip!! Everything was perfect, the food, the waiter plus they charged up my scooter.

Afterwards we crossed the street and ended up at Harrah's. Kelli had seen a Sonny & Cher shirt she wanted for $30 at Caesars so told her if I won she could have it. We ended up at Harrah's ( my brothers fav spot) Kelli was quiet while I played bj and soon she knew she had her shirt as I was screaming everytime I got 21. I had 7 of them. After that heyday I tried roulette, bet on black and had 9 straight blacks b4 loosing !! My brother was really shining on me tonight. I could just imagine my mom & brother looking down on me and just laughing. We crossed the street got Kelli her shirt, went to Balligio to see the last fountain show (we also saw the first) crossed street again to take the scooter back to PH and got a taxi to get home. Sat we hopped on the plane and had an uneventful flight home.

It was an incredible trip!! A perfect balance of nature and man made wonders!

Hope you enjoyed my trip, y'all should try it sometime.

    Final thoughts & thanks

This was an incredible journey and I encourage everyone to do this. America theBeautiful is indeed just that. I hope you enjoyed following along with me!

Canyons at Coral Ridge was amazing. All units are 3 br with 2 upstairs and 1 downstairs (mine) It had a well stocked kitchen, granite, fireplace, huge jacuzzi tub in master br downstairs. Only complaint: no tv's upstairs, just a big one in the LR and one in my br. No planned activities, but there was so much to do it didn't matter.

Did Zion, Bryce, NRGC, & Hwy 12 . All were beautiful and unique in their own way but I think my fav is the Angels Window at the GC. B&B liked Zion best & Kelli liked Bryce & the GC.

Restaurants: Not a bad meal anywhere. All were good to amazing!!

Thanks to everyone who helped me plan this trip, esp Robert who was always emailing me with the weather or another idea he thought of, John who helped with my itenerary and Marge, bless you!! I can't thank you enuff for securing me the Wyndham Grand Desert for our 2 days in LV.

Everything was perfect and I made it home safe & sound cause I played it safer than normal.

Thanks for sharing your travel tales, Shaggy. I can imagine that you enjoyed this trip. The scenery is so beautiful where you went and Vegas is a must see too but you skipped the shows. That was surprising to me as I know you like them.

BTW, I think there is always a wait at Ellis Island for the restaurant, even if there are empty tables. I think it is a ploy to get you to drop some $ at the tables or slots.

I agree. Ellis always has a wait, and we suspect for the same reason!

I had originally gotten tix to Chris Angel but with only one full day to "do" Vegas I cancelled it. It would have mmeant missing a lot of things on the strip plus it was at the Luxor and I was way on the other end. I sorta regret that deceision.

Glad you liked my report!! shaggy

We went to Cris Angel's "Believe" last fall (about 6 weeks after it opened).
My son is a huge fan, and was very disappointed in the show...

I didn't realize that you were there only one day. That is too short. The strip alone is so long that you need plenty of time just to see all these big resorts. They are like little cities or even countries inside. Did you miss the Hoover Dam too? Next time, you need to stay a little longer because they have some good shows always but too many to choose from plus Valley of Fire is worthwhile driving to also. You will be back one day, Shaggy.

Emmy, I've been to Vegas 3 other times for a week at a time plus I've seen most of the shows. I've also been to Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon plus twice to VOF, so this short time was really so we would be near the airport as we had an early flight. Great town to be in if you have to get to the airport early. shaggy

So you missed nothing and I am glad to read that, Shaggy. Everyone has to see Las Vegas at least once.
