It's pretty simple. Since I was first married I had a vacation club and monthly put in X amount of dollars. I do charge vacation expenses to get reward points and then pay it off right away from the vacation club acct.
I have a Timeshare acct that I save monthly for the MF and exchange fees.
Has worked well for me doing it this way. No stress on overspending.

I like your method' simple, but old-timey, tried and true.
Remember "Christmas Clubs" at the bank and layaways ? This is how many of us budgeted for things before the overuse of credit cards.
