There may be restrictions, but I had been checking daily for our October trip to Orlando and got both tickets for the price I would have had to pay for one. We are flying to MCO on a Saturday and home on a Friday. Getting both tickets for less than $500 was still a deal.

I have not flown SW for years and I would like to know its latest change of date poilicy? Would like to book flights for our kids in colleges but not sure of their schedules yet.Comment

I have to say we have never flown on SW because of no leg room and long flights with stops and plane changes. Our daughter came out this year and it took them nine hours and two stops and plane change just to get them from Dallas to Sacramento. This just not worth the money when we fly to visit them on American non-stop in 3 1/2 hours for about $100 more than they spent on SW. We had to pay a whole $25 for our luggage, big deal!
I just checked South West for our trip leaving Sacramento on July 30 and returning on Aug 9th and it would cost us $1256.40 with the two stops and plane change and a 6 1/2 trip. Frontier cost $761.60 with one plane change and only one stop. We checked two other airlines for same dates and all beat the SW pricing.
Flying American probably cost us around $800 to $900 for non-stop to Dallas and only 3 1/2 flight. We have made this trip three times and each time we looked around and still fly American and never delay or problem.

Not sure where you are coming from with regard to the leg room -- if you look on seatguru, you will see that SW's planes have the exact same leg room as American's in coach class.Originally posted by PHILL12 View Post
As for the connections, if SW doesn't fly direct to your destination, then it is usually not going to be price competitve with a direct flight. But I will certainly continue to check them, as I do other airlines, when making travel plans. I just fly the best deal for the specific trip, and sometimes it is SW, other times it is not.

Not quite sure what you are asking, but SW hasn't changed their policy for making changes. There is no fee for the change. If the price of the flight is different from what you originally paid you will either pay more, or get a credit for the difference. The only change from the past is that now this credit can only be used by the ticketed passenger. In the past it could be used for anyone.Originally posted by LisaH View PostLuanneComment

Our daughter who has flown southwest many times because it has some cheap flights if you don't mind wasting a day changing planes and layovers for hours between flights! She has many times said the leg room in many seats just not there. She is use to flying with us on many vacations to Hawaii and Mexico and Flordia, Virginia,Colorado so she does have something to compare to. She always tells me that I would not like the leg room and it would be harder on me because of my knee replacement.Originally posted by PigsDad

SW is great, if you can find direct flights to the places you want to go. I use SW when I can do this. I also use them if I can find a longer (like cross country) flight with only one stop that is cheaper than other carriers. It doesn't make sense to fly SW if it is going to take multiple stops and cost more. No one would suggest you do that.Originally posted by PHILL12LuanneComment

I use SWA often. For me being able to fly from PVD to BWI to visit my family, they are the only aircarrier that offers nonstop flights.
I also use them often for Florida too, since I fly from PVD to BWI, meet up with my brother, or niece and then fly to MCO. SWA is convenient for me.
The leg room is never a bother for me being only 5'4" I can stand up under the overhead!

I was able to get DH and me for October to Las Vegas from Buffalo (return)for $551 total.. Then, when some awards seats came open, I cancelled and rebooked, using my award for one of the flights. I am a very happy camper!

- Boeing 737: 32.0-33.0"
(that is the only plane type they fly)
American:
Short haul:
- Boeing 737: 31-32.0" or 31.0", depending on the model
- Boeing 757: 31-32.0"
- Boeing 767: 33-34.0"
Long haul:
- Boeing 767: 30.0" (ouch!)
- Boeing 777: 32"
So only if you are in a 767 on American, you have up to 1" more space. Otherwise, you are on par or less leg room.
