RCI Last Calls. Deals or No Deals?

We just bought with Wyndham. One of the main reasons that I bought was the use of RCI Last Call Deals, so I am hoping those more seasoned can help me out. Is it worth it? Are there many Last Calls throughout the year? Are they to desirable locations? We would like to take advantage of these deals, but if they are few and far between we may back out while we have the time.

Back out and buy resale.
If the only reason you want a timeshare is to do last calls you can buy something for $1 that will give you access to an RCI account for free thru the wyndham portal.
Take your time and hang out here and we'd be happy to help you find something suitable.
Wyndham is a great system and it's a bit complicated for a newbie to fully grasp.
And IMO it's never worth buying Wyndham direct when you can buy any resort for pennies on the dollar resale.
Check out ebay and see.
They've gone up a bit in a few of the resorts but there are still great deals resale.

That's what I'm beginning to wonder as I have been looking at some of the "resells" through some other websites. When I mentioned reselling at the meeting I had with our salesperson, he said that we would have to be careful about people who had back maintenance fees do and such. How can I be assured that I avoid that? Do all resales come with RCI membership? And what about the Last Call Deals? Are they good or not so good? Thank you for your help!

Cancel your contract while you still can and then do your research. Plenty of honest deals out there. Yes, you need to do your own due diligence, but it's worth it. Sales weasels have no choice but to sour you on resellers. You can find out about past due accounts from the resort before you buy - get the seller's account info to check for yourself.

Don't listen to the sales people. They are just trying to scare you into avoiding resales.
Most of us own resale units. I only purchased one timeshare direct from the developer and it was Disney.
I have owned 8 timeshares. 7 of them were purchased resale. 5 on ebay. 1 was a foreclosure from the HOA. 1 from a real estate broker.
1 from an owner.

Rescind now. You can always go back later and buy retail if you change your mind but once the recision period is over you will be stuck with
a product that you won't be able to sell for 1/20 of what you paid for it.

There are people who will give you a timeshare for free and even pay your closing costs including Wyndham points.

Yes all resale Wyndham points contracts come with free RCI membership.
You can only use it in the weeks TPU trading system though not in RCI points.
It's not a big deal though since most inventory is in weeks.
You can always pick up a cheap RCI points trader if you felt you wanted to go to RCI points resorts.
You will have access to last calls and extra vacation rentals with the free account.

Your resale Wyndham points will work fine in most of the club resorts.
Even if you bought from someone who was behind on their MF's it's still cheaper to catch them up than to pay thousands retail.
If you purchase from one of the Ebay PCC's those owners pay those sellers to get rid of the timeshare for them.
You will get an estoppel if you request one.
If you don't pay your MF's Wyndham may cancel your contract.

I used to use the last calls more often in the past. They can be a good deal if you want to travel off season or to areas where
there are lots of timeshares like Orlando, Branson, Vegas, etc. They usually aren't the best resorts. You never see Disney,
Hilton, Starwood, Bluegreen on last calls. It's usually middle of the road to lower quality resorts. They are great when you
just need a place for a few days. I use them as a last resort when going to Orlando instead of staying in cheap motels.
Occasionally there are some beach weeks that pop up last minute. I've booked a few. They can be good deals.
I live in Florida though, the land of timeshares so I have lots of options. I think in places where there aren't alot of timeshares
nearby it would be harder to get alot of value out of last calls.

What resort do you want to go and I can check availability for you to give you an idea.

Thanks everyone. I sent in the cancellation letter today, certified mail. Hopefully it will solve that. I appreciate the heads up from everyone.

Boardgirl: What are your specific ideas regarding the Last Call Deals?
