The Red Victorian is definitely my choice for THE place to stay in San Francisco.
This is not just your run of the mill a hotel; it embodies all that makes San Francisco so unique. The place vibrates with art, bohemia, friendliness and, most of all, the peace and love vibe from the 60’s which are very alive and well here! You must have breakfast with the owner, Sunchild, a wonderful and very interesting lady who definitely walks her talk around peace, working with many different people and causes around the world.
There are 18 rooms, each of them a unique, lovely, tidy space with its own distinctive and well thought-out personality and décor. There is a gift shop with all kinds of unique peace-inspired items and the café has a great menu. All details reflect the owners’ dedication to peace and people over profits and media.
Also, the Red Victorian is in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, where the Flower Children ignited the Summer of Love in 1967, and today is the most vibrant part of the city with many funky clothing stores, art galleries, ethnic restaurants, off the wall characters and great night life. This place rocks, I couldn’t give it a higher recommendation!
