At the risk of being redundant, before venturing onto Priceline, spend time on BiddingFortravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum to see what hotels are in the **-2 star, ***3 star, ****-4 star and resort hotels. This site will let you know the hotel brands/names and what you'll be checking into. All the info is there.
I try to donate a little to them when I make a score. They're user supported.

I'm not a huge fan of Hotwire, though, having bid on a hotel which they claimed to be 4 star and the overwhelming majority of ratings gave it a 3***. I'm sure others have done better.

    Such is life.

      and I said I don't care I'm bidding $30,

and the bid was declined and Priceline said, "We have a hotel that will take your bid if you offer $50"

and I said no to that

      and then rebid for $32

      and got it!

Oooh, the thrill is in the chase!
YESSS !!! This is the best ! If you can stand firm, do. Biddingfortravel will also let you know what bids are rejected and accepted - as a general rule of thumb. It changes from day to day.
One caveat here, if you bid and it's rejected, sometimes you can re-bid as Wacky did or you might be shut out for a couple days. So, remember that if your trip is close.

Actually...I only use Priceline and Hotwire for four-star hotels in major cities. MAYBE a three-star. Nothing lower. If I'm going to get a dumpy two-star hotel, I want to be able to choose the one I get. Some two-stars are fantastic, some are dumps. I don't want to leave that up to Priceline.

BTW, if anyone a trip to Pittsburgh, Priceline has some spectacular deals there. I helped a friend save $80 on the same hotel room she had already booked!

Well, I just got a $20/day full-size car for Honolulu in September.

Naturally, my niece is getting married which conflicts with the Crane reservations, however, undaunted, I am going to manage both.
          Living the vida loca !

I am flying Boston - Honolulu on Friday, September 7th, arriving Saturday the 8th @ 5:45 a.m. Napping, going to the wedding and reception. Then, Sunday, I am flying Honolulu to Barbados.

But, thanks to WackyMom, I nailed a great car rate for HNL.

          Mahalo !

Hey Boca, are you going to near the Moana Surfrider ?

Murray, good for you ! Fun, isnt' it ?
This is just some of the great info you get here on TS4Ms. Anytime one can save $$$ on timeshares, airfares, hotels and car rentals, it really enhances the vacation experience.
I'm off to Orlando tomorrow and am bidding for my car later today.
              Here's hoping,
              B.

Be sure and let us know what price you get for your car in Orlando. We are heading there in November, and right now I have a mid-sized car reserved directly with Alamo for 15 days for $223.07 (that's $14.87 per day and includes all fees). I'm hoping to do better on priceline once I get closer to our departure date.

I would expect the prices to be higher then as we're in shoulder season now, however, it would be good to see how the Alamo price is compared to the Priceline and/or Hotwire rates come November.
So far, each time I've used Priceline, Alamo has been the vendor.
This is all good, saving money that can be put towards a nice dinner or a new bathing suit !
Many thanks to WackyMother who started this great thread !! Applause, applause.

Everyone Back off of the car rentals for right now. I have a bunch of discount codes that you can try and get cheap deals. I am on my way to work right now, but I will have the codes posted within an hour and a half. In the meantime try Car Rentals from CarRentals.com they tend to have some great deals.

Ok as promised here is a thread with a bunch of rental codes.

                        Car Rental Agency Discount Codes

Word of advice......this is trial and error. What works one time in one location may not work in another or have comparable prices. The best code I have found to work is the Florida Govt employees code through avis. A113400. Make sure to test your codes against the websites price...and dont forget Car Rentals from CarRentals.com Hope this helps save some money. Good Luck.

                          DGonza,

Thanks for the reminder on codes. I went thru BJs Wholesale and reserved a mid-size car with Alamo for $26/day. I've been seeing $40ish from the majors.

I have seen successful $16/day for SAN posted on biddingfortravel but have had no luck yet. I'll keep trying but I now have a perfectly reasonable reservation as back up due to your post.

                              Gotta love priceline.

With a little persistance I managed to get an economy car at $14/day (with taxes it came to $18.33/day) for my dates from the same company I had a reservation for a midsize at $26/day.

Your Offer Price: $14.00 (per day)
Total Rental Days: 9 days(8 days and 22 hours)
                              Subtotal: $126.00
                              Taxes and Fees: $38.64
                              Total Charges: $164.64
                              Lowest Published Price: $263.99
Total Savings:* $99.35 (You saved 38%)

It is just DH so a little car is no problem AND I saved $70.

Twelve is fantastic - I picked up a full size in Las Vegas earlier this year for 16.00. Congrats to you!

We were going to use public transportation, but it does get a bit tricky with all the luggage...so I went on Priceline and bid for an economy car. And got it! TWELVE DOLLARS A DAY!!!! Can you believe that? TWELVE DOLLARS A DAY!
