  • Big Island Activites Diamond Card (Timeshare Presentation)

Just got back from the Big Island yesterday. While we were there, we stopped at one of the activities booths on the street. They will give you a "Diamond Card" that can be used at a lot of places for discounts for up to 6 people. The luau that we wanted to go to the Island Breeze was $77 a person. Diamond Card price $40. That was $222 savings for 6 tickets. They also knock off $60 for one activity, so now it is $282. We also have booked snorkeling trip and golf with the Diamond Card. It can be used for the discount as often as you want.

Oh yeah, the downside to the Diamond Card... A 90 minute Timeshare Presentation at the Shell Vacation Club located at the Kona Coast Resort. But for my time and money, I had 5 kids with me, I am will to spend that 90 minutes out of a week, for the over $400 I have saved so far.

We setup the presentation for our last day full day before leaving. We showed up at 8:30 just like we were supposed to. We were promptly taken in to begin our tour. After a little small talk to get to know us, about 15 minutes, the salesman, asked me what I was interested in. I told him nothing at all. If he could match my last eBay purchase of a timeshare for $2, I would be interested. We talked a couple of minutes about our eBay purchases and then he excused himself. Time so far into our 90 minutes was about 15. He came back and told us we could be in the "reading program" if we wanted. The "Bosses" said we had to stay the 90 minutes to keep our end of the agreement for the discounts, but they didn't want to waste their energy with the sales pitch that wasn't going any where. We were fine with that, so he gave us the newest RCI book and we "read" it and just had a nice conversation about Hawaii and his family while we waited out our "penance." After about 75-80 minutes they told us we could go. I do not know one thing about the Shell Vacation Club other than it is points based and they saved my family a lot of money for our 80 minutes.

Being a Wyndham owner and staying at the Kona Hawaiian Village, I declined the Owner Update there for the $100 gift voucher they were willing to give us.

Let me know if anyone wants any of the prices from the list.

I would love the list. Do they offer any discount off helicopter tours? We'll be staying at that resort when we head over there in February and would love some discounts. You can PM me or post it here or email me at bevvy5@yahoo.ca

    Thanks much in advance.

I did the same thing in Jul08 for same Luau discount for my party of 9 and my TS presentation experience was detailed here. Also booked para sail and surf lessons at a minor discount.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

I have scanned the brochure from the Shell Vacations Club. You can check the prices of the activity and the discounted price.

You can enlarge the print of the scan by clicking on the brochure page after it opens.

Thanks. I'll keep this in mind for next time we go to Hawaii.

The Diamond card is well worth the 90 minutes!

The discounts thru the Diamond card are well worth it - we saved over $600 for just the two of us. I'm a little bit of a skeptic, so I actually called a few of the tour vendors to see if I could negotiate the same discounts - no go! In fact, one of them suggested that I get the Diamond card when I asked about discounts.

Anyway, we sat thru the Kona Coast presentation and actually learned a fair amount about SVC and its resorts, so much so that we decided that we wanted to buy in ... no, of course we didn't buy from the developer! We went home and I purchased our Shell points on the resale market for about 1/6 of the developer's price.

We stayed at Paniolo Greens on the Big Island, which is a Shell affilliate that offers the Diamond Card if you'll tour their Kona property. We told the activities person it wouldn't be worthwhile for us since we didn't plan taking many paid excursions.

So she offered us cash instead, I think $100, to take the tour which worked out better for us. [The cash alternative isn't something they promote, so you need to negotiate for it.]

Thanks for sharing this with us! We're off to Panilo Greens in three weeks. I recall when I was there in 2000 the discounts on tours and activities were substantial . . . and am looking forward to them again during our upcoming trip. (It's no secret that the Wyndham "offerings" in Kona stink!!!)

P.S. Can you tell us, are there expiration dates on the cards . . . and do they put your name on them, essentially making them non-transferable?

CONDITIONS (copied from the brochure that I am looking at)

For eligible participants who attend and complete Shell Owners Club-Hawaii exclusive tour and presentation of its vacation ownership, your invitation will entitle you to receive the Diamond Card. Your card is valid no longer than two weeks after issuance. Tours cancelled or not completed will be charged full retail price for all activities purchased using the Diamond Card. Activites cancelled less than 24 hours before check-in time are non-refundable. (The printing of changes often lags behind effective dates; all prices and offers quoted are subject to change without notice.) These offers apply upon presentation of your Diamond Card; you must show identification with your card. Offers may not be used in conjuction with any other discount or sale merchandise. Gratutuies should be based on full amount of services.

We're at Paniolo Greens right now. We haven't been offered anything except the same restaurant discounts we got at Kona Coast. We got a call at Kona Coast (also a Shell property) the day before check out wanting us to participate in a timeshare presentation and dh said no thanks.

The card and discounts have been very worthwhile the last several times we have been to the BI....and well worth the tour. We didn't use it last time we were on the BI as we found Expedia (offered via the Mauna Loa Village) to have decent prices and just didn't want to do the Shell tour.

We did go on the Wyndham tour and it was horrible....not worth the time.

At the Kona Coast, all you have to do is go to the Tours/Concierge desk and ask how you can get the discounted prices. They'll sign you up for the timeshare tour and give you the Diamond card or equivalent. I have not been to Paniolo Greens, but I am guessing that they should have an equivalent tour/concierge desk. If not go into Kailua and several storefronts offer the timeshare tours plus Diamond Card.

I think that Diamond card is the best deal in all of timesharing for sales presentation gifts. I've saved over $500 in activity fees in a single week. You start doing activities like the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tours and you've got a winner.

I agree Boca! When I did the BI alone back in 2000, I took the Shell presentation and used the heck out of that card. I did the airplane circle tour, roberts' bus circle tour, two snorkeling trips, two luaus and the booze cruise. I must have saved $400 just on activities for one.
