please help, is this a good deal?

Please help, my syster owns a condo in crownpoint condos in ruidoso new mexico. While we were there, rci reps made a presentation and offer her to get into the rci system (points) for 2500 dollars and she would get 59,000 red points she has wk 29. Now if she signed up, she would get the deed to a new week at crownpoint and another 59,000. Since I had been looking to buy one I told my syster that I would pay her 2500 dollars for the membership and I would keep the extra week (27). so bottom line is that i got a week at crown point condo(ruidoso) with 59000 red points for 2,500 plus closing 350. Is this a good deal? can rci ever keep your property deed? I haven't seen a condo there at that price. only one going for 500 dlls but i have e-mailed that person repeately and no answer.. thanks for the help, i'm new to the whole timeshare deal and up untill last month I had no idea what an rci point was. (i guess i still don't).

I bought several at Rancho Ruidoso summer float weeks for about $200 inlcuding closing costs earlier this year.

So, is this worth $2500?? I don't think so.


If you feel the need to buy RCI points, there are several less expensive ways to do this, but if you plan to use the Ruidoso unit, there is no advantage to belonging to RCI points.

thanks, I guess live and learn. I've know people who have paid alot more than i did, next time i'll be wiser... thanks alot for the dose of reality but too late, should have started the research before buying.......

I bought my first timeshare from the developer and paid a lot more than you did and we have really enjoyed it. If you use it and enjoy it, then you have gotten your money worth. Ruidoso, New Mexico is on my list of places to go, actually I have had three trips planned there and for one reason or another had to cancel them. My wife and youngest daughter went there at the end of last summer and really like it.

I do love the facilities at crownpoint and I'll give the points a try. If not i'll just use my wk at ruidoso since i live in el paso tx and ruidoso is only a couple of hours away. I just can't belive they go for as low as a couple of hundred..here i thought i was getting a great deal, i looked at several websites that sell timeshare and none had at crownpoint for under 2000 a bad wk and 4000 at a good week. Guess i never bothered to check e-bay.

Those other sites most likely had asking prices, but not selling prices. Big difference.

IMHO points was a good move for the resort you bought at. I see that area available all the time so it probably doesn't give you a good trader in weeks.

Depending on your needs 59k points isn't bad.

If you can go somewhere last minute a week will cost 9k points.

If you would like to plan in advance, depending on where you are going a one bedroom can be anywhere from 25 to 50k points for a week.

You can't afford Manhattan club because a studio unit there costs 80k but a goodly amount of places aren't that unreasonable. Such as

The other beauty of points is the ability to split a week and use 3 or 4 nights. You can extend points or borrow from the next year as well, if you need a lot for a special trip.

I've been doing some reading and it sounds like I'll be ok and only paid like 20% of the the retail (developer) price. It might still be alot but i'll survive. And after all I think I can manage some pretty decent vacations with my points and if it doesn't work out I'll just keep my wk in ruidoso which is what I originally wanted (but the points sounded really good). thanks to eveyone, i'll stick around and try and learn some more. And since my sister and I are in it together, we got 118,000 points for the 2500 i paid. of course only half of those are mine but they are under both of our names and we can all take vacations together.
