  • Hint for timeshare owners traveling with kids...

We are members of our local Children's Discovery Museum. We are planning a trip out to VA and SC next May, staying at Shenandoah and Shorecrest over two weeks. I checked our children's museum website and found out that we have free admission to reciprocal museums in Richmond, VA and in Myrtle Beach, SC! Way Cool! So if you are looking for inexpensive amusement for the little ones, make sure you check out the Children's Museums!

That's good to know... What Children's Discovery Museum do you belong to?

    Thanks

We were members of the Franklin Institute, a science museum in Philly , and they had a recip arrangement with over 250 other museums around the
      country.
The link below shows you which ones, state by state.

Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC)

Edie, I'm going to move this to the General forums. Your hint would be useful to all our members with young ones.

When ours were younger, we had memberships at the Toledo Zoo, which had reciprocal agreements as well. One trip to OBX we visited both the Norfolk Zoo (where we flew in) and the NC Aquarium. Great inexpensive fun.

For those living in NC becoming a member of the NC Natural Science Museum gives you the same deal. Just learned about that today when we were there for an exhibit.

We belong to the Normal IL Children's Discovery Museum and we get reciprocal agreements with Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) PLUS the Association of Children's Museums (ACM). Our family membership cost us $125 for the year and comes with free admission to our local museum of course, plus discounts on various programs like the homeschool classes. We're homeschoolers, so this membership is pretty valuable for us!

This is a great tip! Thanks, my little ones loved the museum in Austin the last time we went! I didn't think about looking into reciprocity!!!

Museums can be very accomodating - even if the one you are planning to visit is not officially part of a reciprocal arrangement, just ask for what you want. Sometimes you might just get it!

                    I'll remember that, thanks!

The San Diego Zoo does not do reciprocal agreements... claim their membership would overwhelm smaller zoos.

We are members of the Hogle Zoo in SLC and the list of reciprocals is pretty long. Some are 1/2 off but most are free.

Speaking of San Diego, if going with kids consider a membership. OUr family membership costs us less than the price of 2 Adults and 2 kids for both the Zoo and the animal park. Plus you get food discounts and free parking at the animal park... and a few free passes!!!! These work well traveling with friends or grandparents etc that do not fit under the family umbrella for membership.

The last part is that the membership is a TAX break! The IRS considers the value of membership nil so your whole price is a write off as a contribution to a non-profit!

VERY COOL when you consider the whole picture.
