What's changing and when?
Preferred bonus miles
We're reinstating Preferred bonus miles that were discontinued August 6. Beginning on November 20, 2008, Preferred members will earn the following bonuses:
Silver 25%
Gold 50%
Platinum 75%
Chairman's 100%.
Preferred members who flew on US Airways operated flights between August 6, 2008 and November 19, 2008, will receive retroactive bonus miles.
Segment minimums
Beginning November 20, 2008, we'll resume awarding Preferred members with a minimum of 500 miles for each segment flown. We'll award retroactive segment minimums for all Preferred member flights from May 1 through November 19, 2008, too.
Beginning November 20, 2008, Dividend Miles members traveling on US Airways Shuttle flights will receive a minimum of 500 miles per segment. We'll award retroactive segment minimums for all base members who took a US Airways Shuttle flight between May 1 and November 19, 2008.
Retroactive credit for both segment minimums and Preferred bonuses will appear in the December e-Statement.
Will I receive a minimum of 500 miles per segment when I fly on US Airways' partner airlines?
Preferred members will earn a minimum of 500 miles on all flights. Special rules apply to certain operating carriers and classes of service.
Base members flying on partner airlines will not be impacted by these changes—they will continue to earn the actual miles flown. Special rules apply to certain carriers and classes of service.
As a Preferred member, will I earn Preferred bonuses in US Airways' partner airlines?
Preferred members will earn Preferred flight bonuses when traveling on flights operated by United Airlines. Preferred bonuses are not issued for travel on other partners.
How will my retroactive Preferred bonus be credited to my account?
We'll calculate how many additional bonus miles you would've earned and post an adjustment for each segment flown during the period. Those miles will be reflected in the 'miles earned' section of your December e-Statement.
How will the retroactive segment minimums from May 1 through November 19, 2008, be credited to my account?
Preferred members will earn segment minimums for all US Airways flights and base members who flew on US Airways Shuttle (between DCA, LGA and BOS) will also earn segment minimums. We will calculate how many additional miles you would have earned and post an adjustment for each segment flown during the period. Those miles will be reflected in the 'miles earned' section of your December e-Statement.
Will I advance in Preferred status when the segment minimums are posted retroactively?
Since segment minimum mileage counts toward Preferred status, your Preferred level may go up when the segment minimums are retroactively posted. Your most up-to-date Preferred status will be reflected in your December e-Statement.
I would have advanced in Preferred status much sooner if the segment minimums had not been discontinued. Will the higher Preferred bonuses associated with that higher status be reflected in my account?
Yes. For example, if you received a Gold bonus (50%), but would have advanced to Platinum and received the Platinum bonus (75%) if the segment minimum had not been discontinued, you will see an additional 25% adjustment post to your account for each segment flown.
I received a class of service bonus for a short-haul flight that I took during the time that the segment minimum wasn’t offered. Will I receive any extra miles now that you are reinstating the segment minimums?
Yes. The amount of miles credited for your short-haul segment will increase to 500, which means that we will also increase the number of miles credited for your Class of Service bonus.
When can I expect my Preferred status to be reflected in my existing reservations?
Typically members who advance in Preferred status can expect their existing reservations to be updated within 7 days of when their status changes.
How long is my status valid?
Members who meet the published requirements for Preferred status during the 2008 calendar year will retain status through February 28, 2010.
I was enrolled in the Trial Preferred program during the period when the segment minimums were not offered. Will my Preferred status be adjusted?
If the segment minimums would have helped you meet the Trial Preferred requirements, then your Preferred status will be adjusted.
