  • Check your car rental reservations for better deals - I just saved $250

I have a 22 day rental in Maui and the rates were up there over the last six months. I reserved early through the Emerald Club at National and got what was a comparable good rate. All of the coupons and other sites I monitored were at least $400 to $600 more.

Then Hotwire sent me an email today and I took a look. Their deal was good but I went directly to Avis via Costco, Rental Car Momma, and Veterans Holidays and they all had the same great deal which was even better than Hotwire and saved me another $250.

Now I have a full size car at Avis 22 Days for $866. Too bad the Costco coupons for a free day and upgrade do not apply to Hawaii.

Check and double check before you go on your trips....more savings could be out there in this economy.

    Aloha

I always do this when I book rentals and compare those sites and then codes including AAA, Marriott ,II and RCI. Also some charge a slight fee $.50 day if you add a FF # but it's worth it to extend the expiration date.

Too bad this is not true for Fort Lauderdale in February. I booked in August 286.00 for a week now the rate is well over 600.00. I will keep checking and see if it drops closer to February.

I have found the Costco route to be the best for a while.

As for FLL did you try Costco to Alamo? Alamo seems to be VERY competative in Florida in my experience.

I have a flight to Jacksonville (via a Southwest free ticket) for a trip to Hilton Head and North Carolina next month. I played and played with all the rental sites to get the best deal. I finally got $218 total (for 17 days!) through Alamo on the Costco website. The funny thing is--I have to turn the car in at the Savannah airport the day before my return flight, and then do a one-way rental for $50 (also through Alamo) to get back to Jacksonville. So total of $268 for 18 days car rental (compact). To return the first rental directly to Jacksonville, instead of Savannah was much more expensive. I called Alamo and asked if I could just keep the first car for the entire period and return it to Jacksonville which is easier for both of us. They said they couldn't help me. Go figure!
