President's week r/t tix starting today

Ok all you Planners Ahead. Today is the 331 day mark for return tix Feb 24th. But beware, Delta (and possibly others), put the one-ways for the 17th out a week ago... We are going back to Park City, staying in a timeshare we OWN (or at least hope to close on by then!)...

Next year will be the first year we will not have to deal with President's week. My daughter starts college in Sept. I feel as if I have been freed.....

Planning ahead

I learned something the other day- quite by accident. I called Continental regarding our President's week trip to Nassau, Bahamas next year. I called 330 days prior to 2/16 to ask if I could put it on hold with a "fake" return while I waited for the 2/24 fares to load. She told me that she could, in fact, make the reservation for me with the 2/24 return (she said that even though 2/24 was not available on the website for a reservation, the 2/24 was available to reserve, it's just that the lower fares hadn't been loaded yet). She recommended I reserve it that way, and put it on hold while I wait for the lower fares to load for the 2/24 return. When she put in on hold for me, the total fare was $484. When I called back the next day, the 2/24 fares had loaded and my reservation was now $329. That reservation person told me that at that point, the lowest fares for the outbound were no longer available, but they would honor the fares I had on hold. I am pretty happy with that. That nonstop Continental EWR-NAS flight is always very expensive, so I think $329 is a great fare. I had to pay the $10/ticket phone reservation fee, but it still works out cheaper, because that $329 fare was never available online. By the time the lower fares loaded for 2/24, the low fares for 3/16 were gone. So this will be my new strategy from now on!

Thanks. I work in a school and will be bound to President's week for many years. I like to fly Southwest, but I have to wait until August for their Feb. schedule to open!
