Most airlines guarantee that you'll find their best price online.

In the last week I booked a flight on AA that was ~$466 online but I had to call in because I was using a cancelled ticket credit. The price over the phone for same itinerary minutes later was $406.

Just booked a flight on US which I saw online for $301 before I had to call it in because I was using a discount certificate. The price before discount, $277. Went back and looked again online and it was now $363.

I know about seats at different prices, but to me this was bizarre.

I am not sure but I think the Internet Dept might have been able to give you the lower price since you had to call in. You might have had to take a snap shot of he screen and email it to them.

Frank; Spence's point is he got lower rates by calling than the rates posted on the INTERNET. Makes one wonder if it's worth a call next time I reserve rather than assuming the INTERNET rate is the lowest.

There's usually a fee for Phone reservations so one has to add that into the Phone price. Still this variation is strange since the prices normally only change twice a day. I can't really explain the difference.

I suppose if that happened to me I would mail in a screen shot and ask for the difference to be refunded.

        Cheers

If you have to call in to make the reservation, they don't charge you. For example, I had a voucher due to a drastic reduction on a trip we took last October. The voucher clearly stated I had to call them to use it so I didn't get charged. I had the same situation as Spence, the price when I called was $30 cheaper than what I saw online....

I've had this happen as well. I had to call in to make a flight change. I knew there would be $100 charge for the change and from what I was seeing on the United website, the flight price had gone up. Imagine my surprise when the customer service rep quoted me a charge of sometime like $50 total (that included the $100 change charge) because the price they were seeing was less than what I saw on the website.
