  • Honeymoon in La Cabana, Aruba

Last night I booked a one bedroom, poolside view for my eldest stepson for his honeymoon next July 4th. I had a choice of garden view, and pool; did I make the right selection?
Should I call Bluegreen (they were closed last night, so I booked the room online) and ask them to make a note that this is a honeymoon stay, and please try to give them a refurbished room?

Any thoughts/suggestions about the resort and the island would be greatly appreciated.

There is not much you can do to get a renovated room. I went ot La Cabana last October and they gave me an old one. The unit was in addition just beside the renovations and they were doing the alleys and galeries during that week. It was really noisy and I didn't want to ear this noise every day of my vacation from 9am to 6pm. I went to the help desk and they gave me a renovated one the day after. I didn't mind to have an old room, they are not that bad, but the new units are really nice and with a bit of luxury.

As for you question, Bluegreen can't garantee you what type of room you'll get (renovated or not) when you book or thereafter. I have tried to email the resort two weeks before my check-in date, but they say that they couldn't help me because it was Bluegreen who gave them on a weekly basis the list of owners along with their units number. They told me I have to call Bluegreen directly if I wanted to make a change in my reservation. As you can see, it's a dead end. The only way to change your room from an old unit to a new one, it's when you're on site and then, you can ask La Cabana to change your unit. They will do it if there is availability. Also, if you check in date is on a Sunday, you have a better chance to get a new unit as all the Sunday units have all been refurbished.

As for poolside or gardenview, it's really up to you as the room itself is the same. Even with my little room problem, I loved my week at la Cabana and the beach there is really amazing. The renovations didn't bother too much. Aruba is really great place to relax and your stepson should rent a car as well. It's the best way to get around that small island and do whatever you want.

If you have an other questions, fell free to ask.

Correct all of the Sunday units have been renovated. La Cabana is being renovated in 12 phases. The first six have been completed so there are half way there. By July 2010 I believe they will be up to phase 8 as they are now doing the Saturday units so thry should have a better than 50% of getting a renovated unit. Half of the Thursday and Friday units have also been completed. If you look at the resort layout looking into the center of La Cabana from the beach they started with Thursday and Friday units on the right then completed the Sunday units in the middle and are now up to Saturday units from left of center on the layout. The complete renovation schedule is on the LaCabana web site.

We recently purchased a 1BR January week in a completed renovated unit.

        Can't wait to go.
