  • Help for new member

I just joined and was wondering if someone could check the availability for the Wilderness Club at Big Cedar? I live in St. Louis and joined mainly to go there throughout the year. Any help about year round availability would be greatly appeciated.
    Thanks, Pete

Big Cedar is one of the most popular places and if you are looking at summer of 2010, it is unlikely you will find anything expect an odd couple days here or there. Even then, it will probably be a studio. As Patrick said, when are you looking?

        First off thank you guys.

I am interested in how the whole year looks. I live 3 and a half hours away and was wondering how much I'll be able to go there. Like I said I joined mainly to go to Big Cedar.

For instance, is there anything open in May of 2010? Prefer 2 bedroom.
        Thanks again, Pete.

          Well color me surprised.

          I looked for Sat-Sat and I found May 8-15 a 1br lodge, 2br lodge and a studio. The rest of May-nothing.

Being a very popular resort, you need to put in a request or book it very early. I booked an August stay last Sept in order to get a cabin. This is going to be tough to get into unless you are very flexible and can book early.

There are combined 2 BRs available the first three weekends of May (May 1-2, 8-9, & 15-16), as well as most days between. If you want a 2 BR over the weekend after that, you'll have to wait until August. Personally, while August looks better than July in terms of temps and rainfall, I'd wait until September. Not a fan of Missouri summers. There are a very few studios and 1 BRs in the summer if you're desperate.

Off season availability at Big Cedar isn't bad, IMHO, at least the times I've checked and if you're planning ahead. And really it's not that hard to get there in the summer, unless you want a 3BR cabin or a holiday weekend. But it does book up solid earlier than a lot of BG resorts, so you do have to reserve early.

I'm a new member and wont have my passwords until next month. I joined to because i'm just 3.5 hours away from Big Ceder knowing we could always have a little getaway. Who are you buying your points from because where we bought ours i had them go ahead and book me a reservation knowing how fast it fills up. A month might make a big difference.

If you're close you also might consider Falls Village. It's supposed to be a nice resort - some people like it better than Big Cedar - and it's much easier to get into.

Thank you. I bought a package at Big Cedar knowing I could recind, which I did after looking through this site carefully. Thank you everyone who has posted here because I went through old posts to figure out what's best for me. I'm buying from a authorized reseller.

                    Pete:

You were being well taken care of so I did not intervene. I live here on the lake and our boat is one from Big Cedar/Bass Pro.

Although we do not own there, I have followed it from the beginning, the construction and the unavailability of weeks through exchange companies early on.

I remember the search and the excitement when someone finally saw a summer week.

We have also stayed there, thanks to folks who had to cancel and gave us their unit . . . a couple of times.

I also remember sitting on the terrace at Devils' Pool with another St. Louis couple new to TSing, having lunch. They ask me what they could expect on exchanges. I told them this (BC) is a nice as it gets.

Now I am keeping an eye on what's goin g on at Top of the Rock. It's a well-guarded secret but I am going to go over to personnel and find out where that project is at.

Unaailability runs the same as the school calendar, which for rural MO is Mid May to Mid August. Peak summer is 4th of July week.

I was by there the other day and noticed they finally got a big sign for The Cliffs at Long Creek up on 86. That is another BG resort; really nice patio homes.

Good thinking Pete, we bought points from big cedar back in May but on our way home my wife and i thought about it and it was kind of out of our budget for how much they charge. We were told by a friend about pinacle vactions and wow!! It is a fraction of the price.....

I returned a couple of weeks ago from a week at Falls Village. I stayed at one of the new 2 bedroom units and it was quite spacious and nicely equipped. This vacation replaced one that was to have been at the Wilderness Club in March. I had points that were going to expire two years ago and I booked a Bluegreen vacation and deposited it with RCI. I now have the Wilderness Club unit for sale online. I was looking forward to staying at the Wilderness Club due to the good things I have heard. However, I found the Falls to be very nice and have no regrets. I think you will be satisfied to stay at either of the two resorts.
