  • Bluegreen Master Card

Has anyone used the Bluegreen Master Card? Does it really pay towards maintenance fees or do you have to charge thousands and thousands of dollars. It it true you can't get one unless you are a new owner or attend an owner presentation?

The card gives you 1 dividend for every dollar charged on normal purchases. It gives you 2 dividends for every dollar charged related to bluegreen, such as using to card to pay MF or Club dues. It takes 100 dividends to represent $1 to use toward dues or fees. So, for example, 5000 dividends would represent $50 dollars toward your MF or dues.
Bluegreen is pretty slow to post dividends to your account. I had to call after several months to finally get my first dividends to post. I just called yesterday because I have other dividends that have not showed up on my account. Bluegreen tries to blame Barclay and Barclay will say it's Bluegreen's fault.
You don't have to be a new owner to get the card, but you do have to ask for it while at an owner's "update." I just told them that applying for the card was the only reason I wanted to attend the "update." Of course you'll get the "buy more points" sell. APR for new purchases using the card is around 9.99%. Not great but not terrible. If you don't use a credit card very often, you may find that the hassle in getting your dividends posted is not worth the return. I figured that if I wanted to at least keep one card, I might as well have one that gives me a little something back.

I just received my two (2) Bluegreen Mastercards this week, and my rate is nowhere near your 9.99%, dispite being told that's what the rate would be in the owners "update". Both my wife and I have excellent credit scores, so I'm not sure why the high rates on the cards (one is 16.24% the other is 19.24%) - not that I really care since I always pay the entire balance of my cards off (I only use them for rewards).

I'm not sure if the sales staff at the resorts are getting a kick-back for every card they issue, but is sure seems like it.

My wife and I recently visited Club 36 at the beginning of February and went to the owner update. We did end up upgrading our points and getting up to Silver status. (However, it wasn't until a few days after I returned that I found this site and its information on getting points through resale ) Anyway, as we were buying our points the "nice" sales manager informed us that we could put the down payment portion on a new Bluegreen mastercard and earn dividends -- this sounded good to us so we agreed. As we are filling out the paperwork, we questioned why we were both filling out applications for the credit card and were told that it was because we were both on the account -- seemed weird, but Ok! However, once we got into the finance office to finalize all of the mortgage papers, we were congratulated on both being approved for our cards and shown the receipts of the charges put on our cards 1/2 the down payment on my card, 1/2 the down payment on my wife's card. Needless to say I was not happy. When I told them that we didn't need or WANT 2 different credit cards she said it was too late, the application had been approved and the account was issued.

No one could explain why they (BG) thought that we would want separate accounts -- nor could they understand why I was so upset that they had issued 2 cards. I tried to explain to them the effect open unused accounts / closing accounts, etc can have on a credit rating and that I try everything I can to keep my excellent credit rating intact, but they didn't seem to get the point. I'll admit that I was probably a little more upset than I should have been, since we were now into hour 3 of our "30 minute" paper signing session. (Obviously once you start filling out paperwork, you become a very low priority to the sales staff at Club 36!)

So, in the end we are now Silver premier owners with 2 different BlueGreen Master Card accounts with very high (imo) interest rates. While I'm sure some sales manager in Las Vegas is just a little bit wealthier for pushing an unnecessary extra credit card on us.

I'd have to say that the problem has to be on BlueGreen's end.

I've had no trouble w/ my BJ's card which is also issued by Barclay. I wonder why they don't handle the dividends the same way?

My BJ's card sends me a check made out to BJ's Club for the amount of my dividend. You'd think they could work it in a similar manner for BG...

Problem is defintely BGs - it took over a year and I am not sure they have mine corrected yet. I stopped using the card.

Has anyone had more experiences with the Bluegreen Master Card? Is it worth getting to pay toward maintenance fees? Thanks!

I use the BG Mastercard and it's worked for me. In the beginning BG admitted to me that they were trying to improve the dividend process (it's better now, but could still improve). The interest rate for me is a good as any other card I have (never had a credit issue) and since I pay the balance off every month no issues.

Now with that said... it's not my primary card, as I am a AMEX user for Delta Skymiles (even with that card I have to wait for rewards) - but it does help pay down my MFs years. Every little bit helps, and since its my secondary card - why not - I get better value from it that I ever did from my Disney Chase Visa.

Anyone looking to "get ahead " with credit card rewards/point must remember that its a marathon not a sprint to get results.
