  • We are new owners

Hello to all! We just returned from the Wilderness Club and bought in. This was our 2nd trip to Bluegreen as we bought the "try it" the first time and then when we used part of our points to stay at the Wilderness Club, we bought. I hope we have not made a mistake, but when we both (hubby and I) left there, we didn't feel like we had.

We are in our early 50's so retirement is a few years away. (So staying weekdays may be hard ) We have two grown daughters with families, so that was our main interest....to take the families on vacations at a savings.

We only bought a 12,000/every other year pkg, so I hope we are not sorry for that, but we were trying to keep our cost down and at least we got our feet in the door.

After looking at the big book on our ride home, I noticed there weren't too many BG resorts that had a 3 bed unit which is what we would need to accommodate our family. So this worries me. I know Gatlinburg does and this is where one of our daughters live...Tenn.

I know I have a lot to learn and I will be visiting this forum regularly . I will appreciate any suggestions at anytime anyone can give.

One question...is it true that the points never change or go up?

    Thanks in advance!

Your points are tied to whatever unit/week is on your deed.

For example, if your deed was week 31 at resort X, and that week 31 @ resort X is 6000 points/year, then that's the points you have.

They can't inflate the points since they are backed by an actual deed to an actual property.

Even if they could decide to inflate the points - which they can't - (say magically, the number of points needed to book a stay doubled), then the number of points you hold would double as well since your deeded resort/week would double.

It would be as if the US dollar were still on the Gold standard.

Sorry to tell you this but $12,000 for eoy is waayyyyyy!! too much fot this points package.

11,000 BG points sold for $1 at La Cabana

13,000 BG points sold for $158 at La Cabana

I checked them both after going through bluegreen presentation at LaCabana were thery tried selling me 6,000 points for about $9,000 and I said no way!!!!!

Forgive me here. But I'm confused. You say way to much, but how do you know how much we paid and that would be too much?

If you want all the benefits Bluegreen offers, you need to either buy from Bluegreen direct, or buy from an authorized reseller. Purchases from e-bay or anywhere else will get you the points, but they won't get you bonus time, Traveler's Plus, or any of that. Since weekends are often "points pricey", bonus time is a great way to stretch your points if you are going off season or to one of the resorts that often has time available on weekends on season. Some people make good use of the other benefits as well.

If you want just the points, then there are some terrific deals. If you want all the benefits, but don't want to pay as much as Bluegreen charges, then buying from an authorized reseller (Pinnacle Vacations) is the way to go. Boca Bum, who often posts here, can get you authorized points and is highly recommended, not just by me.

This board is a good resource for getting the best use of your points. Another one is the Bluegreen group at Yahoo.

We DID buy our EOY points from BG. We also got the other benefits as we are the charter members.

            Thanks!

Too much is in the eye of the beholder

It appears that you bought from Bluegreen and none of us have heard of Bluegreen selling points for less that $1.00 per point. If money is your **only** concern, right now you can buy points on eBay for practically nothing (due to people losing jobs, etc.). However, as was pointed out, you only get points and none of the other benefits.

Many don't use the other benefits but from your message, it sounds like you might. If so then, as has been pointed out, you have to buy from either Bluegreen or an authorized reseller. Pinnacle is the only authorized reseller and Jim (BocaBum) is a referral agent for them. He can get you good deals both with the benefits and without the benefits. He is a good guy to work with.

However, being somewhat new to timeshares, you may have great discomfort in buying from eBay or even from Pinnacle. Then buying directly from Bluegreen would be the only way to achieve that peace of mind. We all have to figure out what that peace of mind is worth and you can be the only judge of that for you. Additionally, if Bluegreen did not sell directly to consumers, there would be no new timeshares. (BG has added some 10 additional resorts since I first bought.) I think you will find that most of us bought directly from Bluegreen on our first purchase and then used resale to get additional points after we really had our feet on the ground and knew what we were doing.

In any event, you have found a good product (and you tested it which was smart) and only you can decide what is the best course for you.

By the way, Christmas Mountain in Wisconsin Dells also has 3 bedroom units (about 70 of them).

Sorry I read your post very quickly and since you bought from Bluegreen I assumed you paid $12,000. If your happy with what you paid that's fine but most people who buy from the developer pay way too much.

Don't fret too much about a lack of three bedroom units. We often book a two bedroom plus an extra studio or one bedroom for additional friends or family. It works fine and everyone has privacy. We gather in the biggest unit for meals and visiting.

Welcome to BlueGreen! We have loved our ownership, and I hope you do too!

Do not fret at all about your purchase.
You will find that 'resale' points are pennies on the dollar compared to buying direct from BG.

Now that you have all the perks, you can add points inexpensively. If you find that you want to buy more points, look up bocabum on this board. He can assist with purchasing more, inexpensive, points that will count towards achieving a premier level.

If you buy points from places such as eBay, they will not count towards premier level, but they can be used for reservations like any other points.

There's a lot of good info on the BG website. Take some time to read it. Also scan this message board - lots of good info.
