Is there a downside to buying bluegreen poing off Ebay? I'm brand new to this forum but own many timeshares.

The general answer is by buying the points from Ebay or another 'unauthorized' way, you will get access to the BG resorts, but you will not get the extras like VIP level, bonus time, Traveler Plus and a couple other goodies. That will get you going in the Bluegreen system, but to get those extras, you need to buy through an authorized reseller. Of of the Bluegreen experts, Bocabum, is a good contact as he can set you up with authorized points at a pretty good price.

Why doesn't BlueGreen have a First Right of Refusal?

ROFR has no benefit in all reality. Yeah maybe you think it will help prop up prices, but in the long run the developer just can't write the check.

Marriott has ROFR and was using it for years when the market was good. Now that the bubble has burst, they have not been doing much in the way of exercising ROFR. The sales people used that ploy to tell you Marriott would maintain a certain price point. Rubbish now.... Now the market is dictating prices and you can get some good resale bargains in the land of Marriott.

So you are saying the resort companies would rather the points have good home and have the maintenance fees be paid on them regardless of the price being paid for the transfer, rather than double dipping on selling the deed twice or exercising FROR to maintain a base price.

Doesn't Hyatt or Starwood or both exercise FROR.

Does FROR mean that the resort can step in and buy the deed for the price that is on the table, or can they just reject the deal and force the seller to hold on to their deed.

          Also, did you say 'rubbish'?

Bighut, watch out for closing costs on ebay.

If you buy on ebay, the closing costs can sometimes be 2-3 times what they should be. Better to find a proven reseller.

I'd recommend checking out bgexperts.com (where I've personally purchased 5 times) or pinnaclevacations.com. Pinnacle is the only authorized reseller for bluegreen, thus points purchased from them have all benefits you'd get from Bluegreen. Jim of bgexperts is an agent of Pinnacle, so he can get you the same benefits as a Pinnacle purchase, or if you're interested in unqualified points (cheaper, without the extra benefits) he can do that as well.

PS - I understand that officially Bluegreen has ROFR in the contracts but they've never exercised it.

Starwood has ROFR but does not ever exercise it.

              Don't know about Hyatt/Hilton.

Disney Vacation Club has ROFR and DOES exercise it...and the number is pretty generally known in the resale community - there are no 'secrets'.

I wish BG would buy the cheap inventory which would at least hopefully create a better resale market and then if BG would lower their sales center costs, they would get more people in the units. I am not talking a drop of 50%, but when they told me $4 a point at the last update, I think they are out of their mind when points are pennies on the market.

I guess bluegreen is like Wyndham, points bought elsewhere do not count towards the perks. I own 1,000,000 points at Wyndham so I have enough perks. Plus three (fixed )weeks at the Quarterhouse, two at the Summer Bay Las Vegas Desert Club, 1 at Sheraton's Desert Oasis, and RCI points at Island Links in SC. But Bluegreen has some resorts in Alabama and the one in New Orleans that interest me. I was hoping to get just the points to go everyother year to the Frenchquarter Festival. The Quarterhouse is to hard to get a trade for that week. School teachers get to travel. Thanks for the replys.
