point usage

just wondering.....can points be used for anything other than reservations and travelers plus world hotels............for example during a stay at a B/G resort can i exchange points for meals or resort bucks clubhouse fees etc...

ps purpose of question is to use saved points instead of loosing them or to reduce outlay on vacation

I don't think it's a good idea. If one could do it, then BG would have to spend time and effort finding other uses for the unit/weeks which were not used. Someone has to pay for that time and effort and that someone is you and me. Additionally, BGVC members will see the weeks for rent somewhere and accuse BG of cherry picking the good weeks to rent. It creates bad feelings all around.

BG used to allow members to use non-saved points for maintenance fees at a fairly good rate. Now the rate is so low it is not worth it in most cases (in my opinion). BG must have found out that the old rate wasn't a good business decision. Also, when you use BG points for cruises, the rate is such that most people say you can get better rates elsewhere. As such, I don't see it happening.

On cruises, the price of the cruise is the same from BG as anywhere else - I mean the best deal. I recently used BG to book a cruise for this Oct. Got the same price from BG as the cruise website best deal for a past guest (which I am). The BG benefit is that you can use your points to get a discount - 5000 points for a $200 discount on one traveler. Could use 10,000 points for a $400 discount ($200 each for two travelers). It's not a great deal but it's a way to get a discount on the cruise if you have points to burn.

I feel WorldHotels is a fantastic (underrated ?) benefit afforded BG owners.

Let's say you own 10k points. You will pay around $700 a year for the points. If you can't use the pts one year, you could get 2 nights in a Manhattan 3-4 star hotel. $350/night is a reasonable trade for the cost of those points. If you can't use WorldHotels, get a week with RCI. I feel BG owner have reasonable options to using their points if they can't use them in-house.
