  • Bluegreen purchase advice please!

    Hi!

A family member of mine is offering to sell me there timeshare. They own one at Bluegreen resorts and have 18,000 points per year and its a 'silver' membership. How much is something like this worth? I have know idea how timeshares work so any advice would be great! Thanks you so much!

You can check out this website to see what BG points are selling for on the resale market - Bluegreen - Home

BocaBum Jim on this forum has great info and is very helpful.

Also, the silver member benefits may not be transferable.

Read this forum to learn more about timesharing. Timesharing works great if you can plan ahead. Don't expect to go to popular destinations on a spur of the moment.

We have owned with BG since 2006 and love it. Now, when we have to stay in a hotel room, we dread it! I like my space!!

Bocabum is very helpful. He is at a conference right now and may not be available. Premier benefits do not transfer on a sale but can be transferred when given to a family member. Your family member can go to BG online to find what one has to do to insure that the benefits transfer. You may also want to go to TUG, Timeshare Users Group - The first and largest online community of timeshare owners providing timeshare resort reviews, timeshare ratings, FREE timeshare advice and FREE Timeshare Classified ads!, for more information on timesharing. You may also want to join the Bluegreen Yahoo Group. You can find lots of information there about how BG works.

I will echo the comments that most people need to plan ahead to maximize your benefits. We have owned since 1998 and enjoy BG very much. 18,000 points will give you a good selection of nice resorts. I still am amazed at how some people can get so much use out of 7-9,000 points by traveling midweek, off season, and using last minute bonus time. The advantage of a good Vacation Club like BG is that it meets the needs (or wants) of so many different types of people. (I should point out that there are some bad Vacation Clubs out there so you are doing the right thing in researching BG.)

Some people have difficulty with timesharing because they really don't understand it and don't make the effort to learn (obviously you are not in that group). If so, you might ask the family member why they want to get rid of their points. Then bring those concerns here and we can either point out the errors in their thinking (if that is the problem) or find out that timesharing is not for you (it's not for everybody). Of course, the reason for getting rid of their points may be that they can no longer travel (or don't want to) or they won the lottery and bought into the Disney Vacation Club.

Thanks for the info! The reason they are getting rid of the timeshare is because they no longer use it. At all. We try and vacation a couple of times per year and recently stayed at a resort in Cabo (gorgeous by the way). I'm just trying to figure out how much I should be willing to pay for it. I don't think they want to overcharge me but I know you can get good deals on line to so I want to pay the right price. I'm having a hard time understanding some of the pricing levels on line. The point systems and stuff don't make a lot of sense to me yet.

Since you are attempting to buy from someone you know, it would be nice if they logged into their online accounts for Bluegreen and RCI to show you what's what.

See how the point values go - how many to stay in vegas? how many for beach at spring break? etc etc get a feel for how many vacations a year you can really take, and what that is worth to you.

We bought into BG last year and nothing bad to say about it. If you try and take vacations using only weekdays and not weekends it can give you several weeks a year in vacations. We have 12000 points and have booked 3 different weeks (monday thru Friday) at big cedar. Depends on TOY and room size.... But you want to know price, go to pinnacle vacations and check prices, that is were we purchased ours. About .20 to .30 per point is what we paid. im not sure if you can get it cheaper there are a lot people on this form that have been around BG for a long time and know a lot more about this.
