  • Heading to Lodge Alley Inn tomorrow....

Does anyone want for me to check anything out for you? I am also thinking about taking a half day to check out the Bluegreen resorts in Myrtle Beach.

I'll be there for the weekend and then I'm heading over the Orange Lake for the rest of the week.

are you staying at Lodge Alley?

If so can you take some pictures of unit and resort? I think I'd like to go there someday...

Yes, I am staying at Lodge Alley Inn. I booked it after Carolinian posted that he thought it was a nice resort.

I'm not good with Cameras, but I do have a digital. I'll bring it along and take some pictures.

I hear that all of the rooms are unique. But, part of the "owners update" is to get a tour of the resort. We'll see how that works out.

            Southern Hospitality in Charleston

It was a long drive from Boca Raton, but I am so glad that I made the long trek up to Charleston to check out the Lodge Alley Inn.

Set in the center of the Historic Charleston area right on East Bay Street, the Lodge Alley Inn is the perfect location for spending a few days experiencing all the south has to offer. There is an IMAX theatre nearby along with an aquarium, lots of great restaurants and numerous tours of the historical district and Fort Sumpter. For you history buffs, Fort Sumpter is where the Civil War Began.

I would say that there are two very distinquishing aspects of this resort that really stick out in my mind. First, as I drove up to check in, every single employee of the Lodge Alley Inn greeted me by saying hello or shaking my hand. That was really nice after a 550 mile trek from South Florida.

The second thing is that sticks out in my mind is the wonderful 18th century architecture of the Lodge. There are 5 distinct sections of the resort, each with a slightly different set up. The main building houses the lobby and Heritage club where afternoon cocktails are served every day. This is where the studio units are located, each of which has a different floor plan. I got to see the model studio unit which is a long and narrow room with it's own fireplace.

The building I am in is called "The Knapp Wing" of the resort. It has the one bedroom suites. My suite is a very comfortable suite with hardwood floors, dark cherry wood furniture, high four poster bed, long narrow entry foyer, fireplace, full kitchen tucked away to the side the unit. I will post some pictures of the resort when I return home. Also, I have the resort map which I will post, too, if I can figure out how to shrink a scanned document.

The third building is accessed via the open air courtyard. These units in the Griffith Suites are referred to as the honeymoon suites which seemed appropo since there was wedding taking place here on Saturday.

The remaining buildings are where the 1 bedroom lofts and 2 bedroom townhome units are located. I got to see the 1 bedroom loft as this is where they offer you the "owner's update" meeting. I didn't get to see the 2 bedroom units, but I really liked the loft. My kids would love staying up there.

I'd say that the Lodge Alley Inn would be the perfect place to add on a couple of days either to the end or the beginning of your vacation to Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach. The people are friendly, there's lots to do, and you can get a nice history lesson in this quaint little Harbour town.

We did exactly that last summer. After spending a week at the Grand Ocean is Hilton Head, we stayed in both Savannah, and Charleston for a few days.

Charleston is a charming city, we enjoyed our stay very much. The city is very walkable with enough history, shops, restaurants, and sights to see to keep you occupied for two or three days.

I remember seeing the most beautiful gardens behind the city houses, very unexpected. The people were very friendly, and we would return again in a few years.

We didn't stay at a timeshare.......thanks for reporting......

Boca thanks for the review of the resort!

This one has always intrigued me and if I can not get Isle of Palms ( beach is important to us ) I would certainly try for this one based on your review.

Do you think you have time to pass by Church Street Inn during your stay in Charleston? I saw that one on-line yesterday. That is the only other timeshare in that city that I'm aware of...

Thanks for doing the research and glad you are enjoying your visit at the same time.

Can't wait for some pictures if you remembered your camera.

                  Lawren,

We passed by the Church Street Inn. We didn't go inside, however, it looked very nice form the outside, and is right in the heart of the city. You can walk to just about everything from that location.

I don't know how the Lodge Alley Inn compares in location. I don't recall passing it on our trip.

I forgot to stop by the Church Street Inn. I met a person in Fort Lauderdale who works there and I made a mental note to check it out, but I just forgot. Well, I fully intend on bringing the entire family back to Charleston, so we'll get another chance, I'm sure.

I am writing this note from Shorecrest I in North Myrtle Beach. I did a quick drive by to see the new SeaGlass Tower, the Carolina Grande, Shorecrest I and Shorecrest II.

Of these 4 resorts, I'd have to give the overwhelming thumbs up to Shorecrest I. It is in a superb oceanfront resort with a very nice beach. Shorecrest II is newer, but it isn't on the beach.

Carolina Grande was not on the beach either. Bluegreen should have bought the Best Western which is right across the street on the beach. It is so big, I am sure it blocks the views of the ocean from the Carolina Grande.

The SeaGlass Tower wasn't that impressive either. It is sandwiched between the two Yachtsman resorts which have the much nicer oceanfront units.

I'll reserve full judgement until I can actually stay at the resort. I prefer an Oceanfront room, so my next trip to Myrtle Beach will be a stay in Shorecrest I.

Bruce I thought you'd like to know when I was in MB last week I attended a BG ts presentation. They tried to hire me to work for them and sell ts. They were amazed at how long I've been ts'ing. I told them not to tempt me!! They gave me 3 tix to the Alabama theater and 2 tix to Riply's aquarium. shaggy

PS While you are in MB go to eat at Mrs. Fish!! The best seafood I've eaten anywhere at any price. It's hard to find. Next to a office supply house near oak and 9th. The only drawback is they feed you on paper plates and plastic silverwear. Only the locals (usually) know about it. There business is by word of mouth. No adds anywhere!! You know how I love Hoskins, this is even better!! shaggy
