  • Laying it out there.....

Okay, for anyone who wants to hear my little story and give advise please keep reading =)

My husband and I bought bluegreen several years ago, and since our original purchase our family has expanded by three =) So, we purchased additional points so that we could get larger rooms, and or stay longer. The problem we are having (besides RCI issues, but that's a whole other situation) My husband is in the Army, and has changed jobs. He is now in the most deployed job in the Army. Most of the time we don't know in advance when he will be home, and even if he's "home" it doesn't mean he won't be "gone" for work. The only way we have been able to use our Bluegreen has been sheer luck up to this point! We can't schedule anything in advance! Now we are running into problems since our bluegreen mortgage is more than we are willing to pay. We can still make the payments, but the rest of our lives is suffering. We are looking to sell, or at least sell or rent some points..... Do any of you have any suggestions??
    Thanks for your time!!

It's highly unlikely that you would be able to sell your points for enough to pay off the mortgage. Resale points typically sell for well below a dollar per point.

Check out this post for some ideas on renting:

You essentially have to clear the debt before you can sell the points, and Timeshares are like new cars - drive them off the lot and their value does a dive - so renting out points is your best bet in terms of trying to keep afloat financially.

If you have Traveler's Plus, Hot Weeks could work for you - you can reserve those 10 days out. Hot Weeks are RCI inventory, though, so if RCI isn't working for you.... If there are any resorts a reasonable distance away, you could also look into Bonus Time, but of course that requires paying more. It is a very discounted rate, though, and some people have had good luck checking the on-line system regularly and getting stuff quite short-term when someone else canceled out. If you're going off-season, the same sort of thing can happen with regular points reservations - people canceling last minute can give you openings. All pure chance, but if it's your best option it might be worth looking into.

        Just throwing out some ideas...

First and foremost, thank you and your husband for the job he's doing for our country. I am in awe of the sacrifice people make in service of the rest of us.

Regarding Bluegreen, would it ever be possible for you and the kids to go without him? If so, you could book something and if he's available, great; if he's not, you and the kids and maybe an adult friend or grandma or someone can go to help you out. At least that way you'd get use out of it and you might get lucky and have him be here for it.

If that doesn't work (and for some it would and others it wouldn't), then I would work on renting enough to ease the pressure on your mortgage / MF. I will PM you in this regard though I'm no expert.

        Good luck to you.

        Anita
