  • New addition to online reservation-unit number listing

I was booking the Fountains today, and went online to look first before I called the reservation line. I want the older buildings (#3 or 4) and figured I had better call to get the reservation.

While online, I found something new. In addition to the Villa Size and Type, the listing now shows the unit number. When I was talking to the gal at reservations, she was surprised by this, and excited. She did not know that was listed (she said I am her new hero ). So this must be very new.

What we found out (or believe to be true) is that one unit of each type or size is listed. When that unit is taken (and more are available) a new unit number will show up.

Right you are. I checked Christmas Mountain and found the following:

    11/5/2010 11/8/2010 1 Bedroom Townhome (825-A) 4 Blue 4,600
    11/5/2010 11/8/2010 2 Bd 2 Ba Townhome (831-B) 6 Blue 6,000
    11/5/2010 11/8/2010 3 Bd 3 Ba Townhome (831-C) 10 Blue 10,600

Note that Townhomes are 3 bedrooms (2 bed plus 1 bed lockoff). If 831-C (3 bed) is available, then 831-A (1 bed) and 831-B (2 bed) also have to be available. Note that a 1 and a 2 bed townhome are available but the 1 bed that is listed is 825-A.

I hope that now when we call they will tell us (if we ask) what unit you are likely to get (remember it can never be guaranteed). I also hope it gets listed on the reservation form.

Yes, I've seen that now from 3 different people. Just happened today. I hope that means that the unit you book is the unit you get.

I hope their software is sophisticated enough to recognize a "lone" 1 or 2 bedroom of a lock off and list the "lone" unit first rather than just going in numerical order. (By "lone" I mean a unit that is part of a lock off and in which the other side of the lock off has already been reserved.) This would preserve the total unit (both sides of the lock off) for people who need or want the total unit.

It appears that the software is sophisticated. It appears to be showing unit selection which probably maximizes the availability of unit/days. (Data again for Xmas Mtn)

          Dates---------Unit Numbers for----
          -------------- 1 Bed - 2 Bed - 3 Bed
          Nov 12-14 -- 829A -- 829B -- 829C
          Nov 12-15 -- 833A -- 833B -- 833C
          Nov 12-16 -- 847A -- 847B -- 839C
          Nov 13-15 -- 833A -- 833B -- 820C
          Nov 13-16 -- 833A -- 847B -- 835C
          Nov 14-16 -- 833A -- 847B -- 839C

I cannot believe that this is simply random.

I have found at some resorts that more than one identical unit may be listed for the same date which allows one to choose between units. That is a big plus.

              Online Unit numbers have disappeared

I just did a search and at Christmas Mountain, Shorecrest, Falls Village, and Big Cedar and the unit numbers have disappeared! Did we swamp the system or were unit numbers mistakenly put out or did we find some glitches that they are going to fix?

Although it seems they are still working out some bugs, glad to hear this is being worked on. Thanks for bringing it up!

I did not say they were working on fixing some problem. I just listed that as a possibility.

What it DOES show is that "they" have the ability to see if a unit is actually available if u request it - I like that almost as much as us being able to see it!

Unfortunatly, it looks like it was a short term fluke. I had commented to BG that I liked what they had and hope it was going to be brought back. I got the following reply:

Thank you for contacting Bluegreen Corporation.

We apologize but any unit numbers were displayed due to a system issue. We do not provide unit numbers as unit designations are subject to change at check-in.

That might be true but now we know that THEY can see them....so they are available to them, still making it a good idea to request the unit(s) you would like when u reserve.

This is so frustrating. The call center (and now BG's input to the web based site) always say, "well, we can't assign a specific unit because it's always subject to change at the resort". But then the resort's reply is always, "well we can't change the unit because it would create havoc with other reservations". CLASSIC runaround.
I've never understood why the center CAN'T specify a requested unit at time of reservation. What's the risk?

                            Here is what I think

Unit numbers are, and always have been, assigned at the time the reservation is made. From a programming standpoint, it is possible but pointless to have generic units assigned and then later assign specific units.

They don't tell us the unit assigned because, despite the disclaimer that unit numbers can change, once we know what we were originally assigned we'll feel they OWE that one to us. For this reason, I was SHOCKED when that information showed on the website and I wasn't surprised at all when it went away. The only thing that surprised me was that it seemed a highly unlikely error (from the perspective of a former computer programmer.)

If you want a certain unit, it is always best to request it when you reserve your unit.

It probably wasn't an error from the programming side, but the business side..someone said, hey, turn these on...then someone one else higher up the chain decided that it probably wasn't a great idea...
