  • Using pts to get into The Hammocks

I am considering a BlueGreen points purchase, and I would like to get some opinions please.

I want to be able to use BG points to vacation at The Hammocks.

Realistically do I need to buy my points based at The Hammocks, or is it truly that "points are points," no matter where they are purchased?

Points are points. It's not hard to get any week of the year you want at the Hammock's at Marathon if you book far enough in advance of check in.

      Thanks Boca.

I currently own an RCI points unit in Kissimmee (not BG). My wife and I like to go to Orlando as well as some of the nice beach locations in FLA, but we also love the keys and it seems I can only ever get into the Anchorage Resort in northern Key Largo with my RCI points account. That is why I am considering purchasing a BG points account.

So, if I buy a BG points account it won't make any difference where I buy it? I will have the same opportunity to get into the Hammocks as someone who's deeded at the Hammocks?

And you say it's not too difficult to get into the Hammocks?

I've actually never stayed at the Hammocks. How does it rate?

points are points, but if you are buying resale and do not get the vip benefits, then you may want to buy at the Hammocks. If it is your home resort, then you will be able to get bonus time there. I think. d

True on the bonus time statement. But, to use your points at the Hammocks, you do not need to own there.

            What exactly is bonus time?

And if I don't own at the Hammocks, how difficult is it to get in there?

I would think owning there would give you priority, does it not?

              Getting into

We had no trouble 2 yrs ago in November for getting a week in Febuary. I was open to the dates and got a two bedroom. Kitchen very small with small stove, no storage, full size refrig. Old hotel made into a condo if I am right. Master bedroom window overlook in hallway. We were room 219. Last yr made a reservation for my parents and they got the same room. Balcony in main room overlooked the pool.

                There is no ownership priority

Owning at Hammocks won't help you get in there. Points are points from that standpoint.

The only thing that helps you get in to a high demand resort / peak time is using the wait list. If you're a premier member, you can get on the wait list before the 11 month booking window.

So a premier member who is on the wait list has a better chance of getting a given reservation than someone who owns at Hammocks but has no wait list capability.

For *most* reservations, you'll be fine at 11 months. Exceptions might be ocean front units at Shorecrest, or summer cabins at Big Cedar.

                  Thanks all.

Can anyone explain to me what exactly "bonus time" is?

                    Sure

Within 45 dates of checkin, any units still available can be booked either with your points or as "bonus time" which means you don't use points but instead pay cash for the unit.

                    Current bonus time rates are:

                    Hotel/Studio $49
                    One (1) Bedroom $59
                    Two (2) Bedroom $69
                    Three (3) Bedroom $79
                    Presidential/Concierge Villa** $199 to $399

Compared to the points cost of these units, especially for weekends, you can find some great deals this way.

There IS an ownership priority, but only on your owned unit week.

If you own Hammocks Week 1, unit 1, then you get priority on exactly that - Week 1, unit 1.

For booking any other time or unit, points are points.

Ok. So then is bonus time only available to a BG member at that member's home resort. Or is it available at any BG resort that has the availability?

Bonus time is also available if you have a charter member package bought directly from Bluegreen or a qualified package from Pinnacle Vacations.

So if you are NOT a charter member or have NOT purchased thru Pinnacle - then you can ONLY do bonus time at the resort where u r deeded.

Otherswise, you can do bonus time at any BG resort.

i don't own at bluegreen but ive been to hammocks and other properties heres the scoop.

I was there for spring break this past year. I rented from a hammocks owner who rented out bg resorts on ebay.

Almost everyone their were hammock owners and was told thats way it is jan to march.

The one bedroom units have different configurations. Some are nicer than others. The rooms are very nice and well decorated. Staff is great. It is well maintained after being destroyed by huricanes.

Do not eat there. Food sucks. Eat at nearby restaurants
