That's good to hear. I've been wanting to go to the Hammocks. Is there enough to do for a family of 4 for a 2 week vacay?

My plan for next fall is to do a few days at the Hammocks and a few at Solara in Miami
      - break it up with city/seaside.

That's what I was leaning toward, too. I could happily spend my days lounging in a hammock, walking the beach, or snorkeling, but the little people get squirrely with too much relaxation.

          Things to Do

          At the Hammocks:

          1. While there is no beach to speak of at the Hammocks, go to Key West for the day. Fine beach, great food (Sloppy Joe's, etc.), Mallory Square at sunset (great view and a whole bunch of performers). Don't forget the Hemmingway House and Mel Fisher's Atocha Museum (you know, the one in the recent news that got its gold bar stolen).

          2. Go north to the dolphin research center (I beleive it is on Grassy Key...someone might correct me). This is for whole family. Watch the dolphins play. People wonder what keeps them in the pens when the nets are only a couple of feet high. Truth is...they like living there.

          3. Feed the fish of the dock at the Hammocks. Hungry little (or I should say big) fellas.

            It's a Tiki Bar!

We were there two times and the fresh fish we had was great. However, remember it is not a 5 star restaurant, it's a poolside Tiki Bar. Also, they run out of fresh fish early so don't wait too long.

There are so many nice restaurants within driving distance from the hammocks. I thought the menu was pricey.

I would reccomend spending 4 to 5 days no more.

We were there last year and had a great time. I thought the food there was good, and we eat there approximately 4 nights. We were poolside for the afternoon, and they went immediately to the restaurant to eat and watch the sunset. Key West is a must, and it is not far.
