Disgruntled BlueGreen Owner

My wife and I bought 9000 points thinking it would be a good deal. About 3 years ago, it cost us $17000. We figured if we kept it a long time, we were going to spend the money anyway. However, I didn't count on maintenance fees and dues being $850 per year. Anyway, it's water under the bridge and I chalk it up to a bad decision.

Anyway, now that we're in, it looks like there's no way out. I can afford the fees, but some day I'd really like my money back. From what I've read, it looks like it's not possible to cancel or sell, except at a very low price. Once you're in, you're stuck. Am I missing anything?

You won't get your money back by selling. But you can learn to use what you bought and have wonderful life experiences. How you want to go forward is up to you.

You have purchased a very good TS product. Hang around and learn to use it to its utmost. Many owners here have bought directly from the developer and are happy with their vacation experiences.

You purchased from the dealer, so you probably spent more than you should have (but the vast majority of consumers do the exact same thing so don't feel bad).. The value drops as soon as you buy it, so if you decide to sell it, you'll lose thousands..

You'll be paying money each year on upkeep and insurance whether you drive it or whether you continue to ride the bus..

If you use it often- it might end up being a great purchase regardless of price..

If you never get behind the wheel- it's just a very expensive mistake..

Timeshare is pretty much the same thing. Riding the bus gets you there, but the ride is probably alot more enjoyable in your F150!

(Sorry, for some reason Bluegreen points always give me the same feeling as my truck- not too fancy but really comfortable and useful)..

Great analogy Rich.

Bluegreen seems to have gotten that reputation somehow and having stayed in a few BG resorts now I really don't understand why. More like my Honda Accord as they generally have some nice bells and whistles and points system is user friendly and pretty dependable once you learn the how tos.

It’s the same analogy I came up with myself tbh
But I hate it when people tell me what they paid for the same product.
The other way I see it is that it’s a bit like Banks they tend to do more special deals for new customers than existing ones.
Remember big Franks heaven and hell joke.

Yes, people do ask questions for which there are no answers, but one can speculate. Newcomers are sometimes overwhelmed by the depth of some of the discussions and the number of messages. It's good that with a variety or resources, one can find the resource which suits them at a particular time in their life. By the way, the Yahoo group also discusses square footage, screened vs. nonscreened porches, condition of the couch, best restaurants, etc. The discussion is whatever members are interested in at the time. This is MF time so discussion goes that way.

If you have the posts sent to your e-mail either individually or in a bundle (I forget what that's called), it's hard to follow threads. I read it on the Yahoo site and following threads there is much easier, although admittedly not as easy as it is here.

Charles is right - there's always a lot of financial fussing around the time we get the bills for maintenance fees. But you can also get tips about which unit or building to request where and what kind of upgrades have been done and suggested places to visit and just lots of useful information.

But while TS4MS, TUG and the Yahoo group are all great sources of information, it takes time to collect it from any of them, so while I would say the Yahoo group generally offers the most information and the most depth, that doesn't mean it's the best for everyone. Any one of them will help you to make better use of your ownership.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think it's time to move on to make the most of what I have. Actually, we have had 3 nice vacations and one that wasn't so nice (just because they put us in an older room at one of the resorts).

I'll check out the other links and see how to do better. With only 9000 points, I've decided it doesn't make a lot of sense for me to use them at spring break- I can't stay in Florida for a whole week on 9000. Better to use them on hot weeks or white weeks on the calendar.

I was thinking I could buy more cheap points from a reseller and book vacations for my friends and parents. That might pay for my maintenance fees.

How do I get value out of Traveler's Plus? Is there a forum for that?

Hang in there, dude!! I felt the same way one year after my purchase and not knowing how to use the system. Once I figured it out, we have had some awesome vacations. The thing I like is that we have gone places we probably never would have before. I couldnt be happier...unless, well, I didnt have to pay the durn maint fees.
