  • Fountains Impressions

This was our second visit to The Fountains (June 2009 - 6 nights & October 2010 - 8 nights). The first visit was in Bldg #8 and the seond was in Bldg #10. We are overall very pleased with the service and condition within the resort. Being not only an owner but a stockholder (and an ISO quality auditor), I tend to notice things at places where we stay (or as my wife says 'being picky'). Some highlights of our stay are listed below:

    - go to Mug of Joe's for breakfast or lunch. I know it doesn't look like much, but the service and food was excellent...a bit overwhelming in portions. There is also a Domino's pizza onsite...not bad...3 out of 4 stars.

    - for quiet time around a pool....go to the clubhouse...the main pool is a bit noisy, but kids like it that way...just buy a noodle and float at the clubhouse.
The hot tubs were a bit on the cool side, but the steam room was roaring.

    - one of our TV remotes had sticky buttons. I called the front desk. Maintenance was knocking on the door in less than 15 minutes later. We got a new remote.

    - check-in was fast and simple. I watched people for awhile and noticed quite number did not take a few minutes to aquaint themselves with what was in the lobby as far as guest services....they just sort of ran off to the car with the room key looking bedraggled. Folks, slow down. Its vacation! These are probably the same folks that complain that Bluegreen never told them about anything.

    - one serious housekeeping appearance problem. The floor mats in Bldg #10 in the elevator lobby and on the elevator were very dirty and stained. This does not give prospective owners a good impression when they are on tour.
From some other reviews I have read, The Fountains has trouble keeping stairwells and elevators clean. The rooms for the most part are fine. I called maintenance on this issue. They did take up the elevator lobby mats, but left the dirty elevators mats in place.

    - now for everyone' favorite....the SALES pitch. It actually went well since I knew more about Bluegreen than they did (thanks to Boca Bum, the Forum and annual reports). I was a sort of a puzzle to them. The salesman tried to pitch 'GOLD' level to us for about another 20K. No way. We were polite and I think he just gave up after about 30 minutes. He even brought over his boss....that lasted about 10 minutes before he gave up. Nice continental breakfast though. Just smile...be nice...go with the flow.

No dividend on the stock. It is also not a growth stock, so I own a small piece of it only to have some additional information/rights within the Bluegreen system.

It is the same with me....a small number of shares (200)....mostly to get information. However, if the economy turns around in 2-3 years, this may be a growth stock. The Benihana restaurant is right next door. Outback, Carrabas and Bahama Breeze are all within a 5 minute drive. The up-scale discount shoping mall is about 1/2 mile away. Not bad for some good deals. Disney is about 20 minutes away. Sea World is about 10 minutes away. Universal is about 30 minutes away (it closer to Sunshine II).

Go to Winter Park for a very relaxing and interesting boat tour. Take your Garmin or Tom-Tom for navigation. You will get to see some nice expensive homes.....including the one in which Mr. Rogers of TV fame grew up in.
