  • Max Occupancy

How strict is bluegreen when it comes to enforcing the max occupancy rule? I have 3 children and we normally reserve a 2 bedroom when we book however all I can find right now is a 1 bedroom with max occ of 4. It says king bed in the master with a sofabed in the living room. I can easily have two children on the sofabed and my youngest with my wife and I in the king. Has anyone done this in the past or is it a big NO NO?

Every confirmation letter I have ever seen from Bluegreen clearly states:

    (3) The occupancy limit includes children of all ages and is strictly enforced

That being said, I have called a resort, spoken with a manager and written down their name the one and only time I did need to exceed occupancy. This was not at a Bluegreen resort.

Note that occupancy limits are locally set and enforced and are there for your safety.

      Max Occupancy

While I agree that BG should enforce their policy, I have noticed in many of my stays that they don't.

If all of you are never at the front desk at one time, they will never know how many are in the unit.

If you have to walk by the front desk every time you leave/enter the resort it would take a VERY astute person to realize you're blowing the limit. It would have to be the person that checked you in.

The limits are usually driven by fire code and/or insurance requirements.

A child small enough to sleep with mom and dad - I wouldn't worry about it. Tell them 2 adults, 2 children, and go and enjoy your vacation.

Thanks for your thoughts on this matter. I am normally a stickler when it comes to the rules however I don't feel that my children are old enough yet to get two one bedroom units. I guess this won't be an issue because it's now showing 2 2 bedroom units available for the week I need.

While were checking out of The Fountains in Bldg. 10, we estimated around 8-10 people coming out of one unit on our floor dressed for the pool. I took a quick look through their open door as we went by and it appeared that their were 'extra' mattresses on the floor. I would have made a big stink about it but we had to get to our cruise ship on time.

Just remember, if you are caught, BG is within their legal rights to evict everyone from the unit!

Of course, additional people in a unit put additional wear and tear on the unit as well as use up more resources (hot water, heat, air conditioning, etc., etc.). Who pays for that. Certainly not BG. It's Tom, and me, and rest of you in the BG Vacation Club via higher maintenance fees!

When I bought my original unit, the sales person recommended lying if you had too many people in the room (Seriously). He said he would regularly bring his kids friends along, and have sleeping bags all through the room.

When it comes to immediate family and small children, I don't understand some of your comments on this board.

I have called the resort on the rare occassions and asked them. It has been fine in the past.

Watch which resorts you are at, because some 2 bedrooms are lockoffs that do have a separate outside door and a few do not have an adjoining room but share an entry hall. The one that comes to mind is the Villas at Laurel Crest.

                      Have a great trip.
