  • Depositing BG deeded week into RCI - new program

With the change in the RCI/BGVC program, you no longer deposit a week in RCI - instead, you use a crossover grid when u want to exchange.

This can be good and this can be bad - but in general takes away the "guess work" of what to deposit into RCI to get the best exchanges.

The one exception to this is that you are still able to deposit into a "regular" RCI account your deeded week and unit.

Question - the resort I own at - Harbour Lights - is listed as an RCI Points Resort.
Will I still be able to deposit this into the "weeks" side of RCI since technically I am a weeks owner?
    TIA

You should be able to deposit a fixed week at Harbour Lights into RCI directly as always. Just because it is a points resort doesn't mean that it can no longer operate as a weeks resort, too.

So has the ability to reserve a week with points, then deposit that week, been taken away?

THAT is a major step backwards, if so.

Yes, that has been taken away. It is a step forward for most owners who don't use RCI because they don't know how to pick and/or deposit a week into RCI for exchange. That is well more than 75-85% of owners.

It is a loss for owners who know how to book a great week for deposit and then trade up.

I just found out about this today. I have no immediate plans for saved points, about 10600. I was going to deposit into RCI. Now what are my best options(obviously using them myself is best). I have until November so all is not lost yet.

Can I still rent a unit? Seems if I can do this I should be able to deposit the same unit into RCI.

Can I sell extra points to someone else?

What other options are out there?

            Thanks for the help

              Bluegreen & RCI Deposits

I am a weeks RCI member and often book Bluegreen Wilderness Club at Big Cedar. I have been using both my RCI exchange weeks from timeshares I own (not bluegreen) and bonus exchange time with RCI. Additionally, I rent individual units from Bluegreen owners.

I am now wondering, since RCI has changed the way that Bluegreen members deposit time how is RCI choosing what weeks to put up for exchange with RCI from Bluegreen.

Before, I had lots of luck with Bluegreen members booking 2 bedrooms lodge and cabins and depositing those for their exchange purposes. Then, I was able to exchange my units for those. However, I am now seeing only 1 bedroom and studios available. I don't know if this is simply a function of the time of year of availablity or how RCI is choosing the units to deposit for exchange.

I am hoping a Bluegreen member might have some insight into the new RCI deposit process.

It would be interesting to see how RCI is choosing to take units out of the Bluegreen system or if Bluegreen is making the determination of the unit size, location, and time period.

I look forward to any possible insight in the above matter.

Basically, what Bluegreen has done is taken back control of the deposits that go to RCI for exchange. This is very good for the lion share of Bluegreen owners and very bad for those experienced RCI exchangers who knew how to work the system in their favor.

Now, there is a negotiation that occurs between Bluegreen and RCI on which inventory RCI can have. I don't know the nature of how the process works, but it does give Bluegreen inventory control. This means they can give RCI 2br units at Big Cedar if it fits into their overall plans.

This takes power away from the individual owner to control their deposits. But, it allows BG to use the power of the organization in trading with RCI. In general, this should work to the benefit of the overall population of Bluegreen owners. But, it depends on how BG implements and manages it.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like the trades should be good for Bluegreen owners.

This makes me wonder about purchasing a Bluegreen points timeshare. I have wondered about having a low points account over the years to simply have access to see what is available with Bluegreen and then rent the additional points necessary for my trips. I currently go 8-10 times per year to the Wilderness Club.

This may not be the correct place to ask; however, I was wondering a couple of things. First, if you do not have enough points in your account can you see all inventory available or only up to the points you have available to use. Second, must you own at a specific resort (i.e. Wilderness club) to access the bonus time at that particular resort. Furthermore, can you access bonus time at the resort (if you own at that resort) with any points account or only with an authorized points account.

Please move this to a different post, if deemed necessary.

                  Thank you,
                  CJ

Thanks, I still don't have a handle on how RCI Points program works.

Does anyone have any advice concerning the best use for saved points?

I finally got through to a person at Bluegreen. They confirmed that RCI won't accept booked weeks from Bluegreen. He also confirmed that I am free to rent the unit as in the past.

I suppose that will be my best option, unless I decide to try a different Exchange company.

He gave me the impression that the reason we can't spacebank weeks from saved points, is that RCI won't take them, not that Bluegreen won't allow it.

Nevertheless It is a bit inconvenient as I wreally don't like messing around with renting points.

I can answer a few of these.....
                              1. Yes, you can see all the inventory but you can not book it - you can however purchase addition ponts to complete a reservation - I do not know the cost off hand

                              2. If you have authorized points you can access bonus time at ALL resorts.
With unauthorized points, bonus time is at your deeded resort only. In your case, it would be worthwhile to buy resale at Wilderness Club.
