  • Christmas Mountain Village New Owners

    Hello,

My wife and I are about to visit Christmas Mountain Village for the first time together since owning. We did not purchase through Bluegreen

We purchased not though BlueGreen and have some questions:

-What activities are there in the winter besides skiing and tubing? Do you get discounts on skiing and tubing if you stay there?
-We would like a owner update to see the full "program" do we request one or should I wait to see if we will be contacted.
-Boingo lists Christmas Mountain Village as a wifi hotspot anyone used this service?
-How helpful in the resort concierge?
-Our 1 bedroom town home unit lists a "whirlpool tub" how is this different then the Deluxe Timber "Jacuzzi"
-Any other ideas of this to see and do for two 25 year old childless adults?

    Thanks for your help!

You will get a discount on skiing related activities.
If you cross country ski, Springbrook golf course has groomed trails.
Movie theatre, bowling alleys, at kalahari, and other places.
i am not sure what a ride through Devi's lake state park would be like in the winter. it is a beautiful spot.
If H H Bennett Museum is open, it is inteersting.
    Wizard Quest, downtown Dells.
Antique and Craft shops off of Hwy 12 and Interstate intersection.
If the House on the rock or Taleisen is open, they are very intersting, in Spring Green.
Portage has the surgeon Quarters and the Agency House Historic sites, if open.

Of course, all the boat rides are closed down, the International Crane Foundation is closed down, these are thingsyou would enjoy in season.
Some of the buildings at Circus World Museum in Baraboo might be open and if you can get a tour of the ringling Theatre it is very interesting.
If you don't like winter outdoor sports, it is pretty quiet in the winter.

Bluegreen owner updates are essentially sales presentations; therefore they will most likely tell your ownership is insufficient and their solution to everything is, "Buy more points!" While there are some knowledgeable salespeople, odds are good that you will get more - and more accurate - information on your current ownership here or on the Bluegreen Yahoo group. Someone will probably call you and offer to set up an owner's update the week you're leaving; if not they'll most likely ask when you sign in, but if they don't, you can request one then.

Unless you bought through Pinnacle and paid for the upgrade to authorized points, you have unauthorized points, which means you have Bonus time at your home resort (CMV), your points, and (if your ownership isn't too old) an RCI membership. You can use your points to trade into RCI resorts or use cash to rent RCI resorts. Bonus time is the opportunity to rent units at the resort on a cash basis.

If you buy through Pinnacle and pay a dollar a point or more, or upgrade through Bluegreen for about the same amount (plus you'd need to buy more points), you can also have bonus time at all the resorts, and the opportunity to sign up with Traveler's Plus, which means you can trade into many of the Shell resorts with your Bluegreen points, and gives you access to Hot Weeks (RCI inventory). Bonus time is available 45 days out (48 on the Internet); hot weeks I believe are available 10 days out. Availability is limited in prime times.

If you do an "owner's update" then take EVERYTHING the salesperson says with several grains of salt, especially if they say something is "about to happen/change". It's ALL about the sale.....

Traveler's Plus is a program that BG uses for sales. It offers things like Hot Weeks for short notice travel using only 3000 points for a week.

There are other perks that are offered by BG to close the sale.

If you bought resale then your points are "unauthorized". They don't count towards the perks nor towards premier status.

You can buy "authorized" resale points from Pinnacle Vacations (a BG company) but you must pay at least $1.25 per point (the magic number).
You would not be able to buy for $1.25/point at an owner's update, lowest I've heard is about $1.80 and that's for around 5000 points. If you keep resisting they do magically come up with lower cost points packages. Imagine that!

If you ever do want to buy more points, contact Bocabum on this board. He can help with buying both authorized and unauthorized points and knows all the options.

It went to Club 36 in Vegas on Thanksgiving. I did not do an update. I'll be going to Sunshine Resort in Orlando this May using my floating week (not points). I'll do an update there and see what BG has to say.

I think you can learn more accurate information about the system on these boards than you will from a salesperson.
