  • My experience with bluegreen

    Me, my wife, and our two kids 3 and 5 went to club 36 February 16-18 and had the time of our life. The place was very nice and clean (no problem with the plane noise my kids liked to watch them land and take off out the window). I have also read that club 36 is unsafe. Not in my opinion, I would go back and would recommend it to everyone.

    We went through a sales pitch and though it would be a good idea to buy a membership. Bought 5000 points for about 12k which is a little high to me but it would be money well spent if what the sales people said it true.

    That is where all the problems come in. We got back from our trip and I started reading the books they give you and nothing the sales people said was true. The more I read the more I started to think what did I do. After two strait days of reading everything I could (in the books and on line) I sent the proper paperwork to bluegreen corporate office and canceled the membership.

    This isn’t to make bluegreen look bad I still like some of what bluegreen has to offer and will buy at a latter date resale. I don’t know why the sales people think it is ok to lie right to your face. They need to show the product and let it sell its self, if they did that I would be a happy bluegreen owner.     Welcome to the forums! Congratulations on cancelling your contract. You won't regret it. Yes Bluegreen are nice resorts. Take some time, learn here on the forums, and eventually buy resale if that is what you want.

      Not a problem exclusive to Bluegreen. It is industry-wide, as if all timeshare marketing programs are baked in the same pan.

      We have been on five tours at Orange Lake and three at Wastegate over a 20 year period, (and many other tours) and they have not varied at all (well, except for Wastegate said II where they used to say RCI, and RCI where they used to say II).

      It's just hard to believe that the liars have been lying for years and years, the lied to have been reporting being lied to for years and years, and it just keeps going on.

      I don't believe anyone who matters cares.

        Best Sales Pitch Ever Given - Really

        We bought a timeshare on Navarre Beach, FL back in the early 80's. We were walking down the beach and saw a sign to come in and take a look around. We did. We were met by an older NJ type salesman...neck chains and all.

        He took us around the building and showed us the units. The tour was about 30 minutes. He then took us to the office for the 'pitch'....and what a pitch it was. He told us the price and what a good deal it was. He then told us the following:
        1) timeshare is not a real estate investment
        2) you use it to avoid high vacation lodging costs
        3) you don't use your credit card to buy...if you can't finish paying for it in a year, you shouldn't be buying it
        4) buying a timeshare does not 'make' you go on vacation.

        He then gave us all the legal documents and bylaws to read. He told us if we wanted to move out of the Holiday Inn and try 3 nights at the condo for $15, he would be glad to accommodate us. He asked that at the end of the 3 days if we wouldn't mind coming to the office to say whether or not we wanted to buy. He wished us well and said he would leave a note for the office person to get the 3 nights.

        We bought at the end of the 3 nights and enjoyed over 20 years of beautiful vacations before two hurricanes in a row demolished the place. The damage was so severe that the insurance coverage did not cover the rebuilding cost. So we used a quit claim deed and moved on to Bluegreen where we are very happy owners. We do miss all the friends we had in Navarre Beach. Most of us showed at the same time every year....just like a reunion.

              last week while staying at Vacation village at Weston, a woman told me she was a bluegreen owner and wanted to buy more. I said i had seen lots of packages for giveaway through Timehsare Kahuna and on TUG. she was interested and searched me down the next day for more information. When I told her she would have to pay closing costs, she told me that was a big scam. she looked at me as if i were an idiot for mentioning it. I told her to look at the bluegreen yahoo group, Timeshare Forums, or Tug, that this wasn't the same as companies that solicit you to sell your timehare for an upfront fee, but i guess i was too stupid to listen to.

                Sometimes talking to others is problematic.

                  It is too bad that the timeshare sales process gets such a bad rap (deservedly, in far too many cases). When my wife and I bought our first package (from Bluegreen directly) we overpaid, and were told many things that weren't quite true. But, we have learned (and still are). Two weeks ago, we were at CMV in WI Dells and upgraded to a "bronze" level. Yes, we know we could have gotten cheaper points resale, but we needed to get out of our EOY contract and it seemed like the most reasonable way to do it. Long story short, we worked the guy down as far as we could on price, paid an amount slightly less than we had planned on prior to walking in, and are planning our next vacation. Bottom line, we were much better educated this time, which is an often recurring theme here on the forum. As a sales man, however, (newspaper, signs and printing...not timeshares!) it is sad that the sales people in this industry seem to stoop to this level many times. I quess the difference is that they rarley have repeat customers.

                    It is. If timeshares didn't have such a bad reputation, hubby and I would have been vacationing years earlier.
