  • Big Cedar and June

My family and I are going to Big Cedar in June and am wondering if anybody has any recommendations on kids activities while we are there. Our children are 3 y/o and 1 y/o. My 3 y/o loves swimming so I know we will do that. Just wondering if anybody else has any ideas.
    Thanks,

    Some thoughts

I think with 3 and 1 year old kids, you're going to find plenty to do just staying at Big Cedar. You'll probably swim a bit, go for a nap, swim a bit, go for another nap, watch the turtles, swim some more.

There are 4 outdoor pools plus the lazy river and one indoor pool. You can spend a lot of time just going from one pool to another.

There are also two playgrounds. Depending on the 3 year old's eye-hand coordination, there is also free mini-golf. There are turtles in a few of the ponds. There is also a creek area behind some of the cabins where my kids just mess around. We also take little walks or bigger hikes around the resort to look at the flowers, the small waterfalls, etc.

In the summer they generally have lots of planned activities including movies at the pool, ice cream sundae night by the pool, etc, scavenger hunts around the grounds, etc.

We go to Big Cedar 4-5 long weekends a year and we almost never go to Branson. We are plenty busy at Big Cedar and I'm crowd- and traffic- averse.

June will be a lovely time to be at Big Cedar. Enjoy!

      Big Cedar in June

Like akparsa said, there are lots to do on the resort at Big Cedar. Our kids have grown up spending a week in June every summer since 2000. We purchased there and we consider it our home away from home, our little cabin on the lake if you will. There is the little Cedar kids club, they have a fishing derby at the large pond, a Dive in Movie(all the kids love this, they show a good rated movie on a large screen while the kids swim or float in the pool) and a host of other activities which was mentioned. The parents seem to like it too, sitting in a lounger eating popcorn and relaxing, AAAAh i can't wait till June just thinking about it. I would suggest that a couple of weeks out from your stay contact the front desk and ask them to send you an activities guide for the time you plan to stay, this way you can plan ahead. The number is 417-348-4084. Enjoy your stay, which i know you will, and the 3yr old won't want to leave when it comes time. I know i don't. We plan to be there in June week 23 maybe our paths will cross.

        june 18th - june 25th

I have been a Bluegreen owner since 1996. We live in Pennsylvania and are taking our kids to Big Cedar for the first time this year. Our stay starts June 18th and we are staying the full week.Staying in a two bedroom cabin. Can't wait. I have two boys ages 7 and 9......and two girls ages 13 and 17. I am hoping there is plenty to do for all four of them.....

You'll have a great time. My kids are 12, 10 and 7. We have been to big cedar maybe a dozen time (here right now!). There is so much to keep you busy in summer! Boating fishing, paddle boats, mini golf, sand volleyball, horebqck riding...not to mention the swimming pools and lazy river.

And in June it isn't too hot yet. Enjoy!

The lake will likely still be warming up, so it will not be bathtub temp yet.

Thanks Anita.......I assume we can we rent fishing poles and boats on the Lake as well. Are the rates reasonable?? Is swimming permitted in the lake ??What are the highlights of things to do in Branson ?? We have already booked tickets for the Sights and Sounds Theater. We have been to the one in Lancaster, PA and it is terrific. Any other suggestions would be great.....thanks

                Plenty for teens to do

My teens liked the magic show with Kirby, and also liked the zipline at the park just north of Branson, I think, and the track. It's been a few years since we've been there, so I don't know if they're still around. We're going down there a couple of weeks before you, and are waiting for our Branson visitor guide to arrive so we can plan a special outing. There's plenty for everyone to do there.

Tracks is still going strong. My buddy, from the couple who go to Florida with us, just built the elevated one last Fall.

The lake/dock, SDC, some shows are the things our little ones like when they are here. Mostly lake/dock.

                    Renting Fishing Poles

                    Rich,

You can rent a rod and reel at Bent Hook Marina at BC or many of the other marinas in the area. Most rod rentals are fairly expensive for the low quality equipment you get. If you are planning to fish for more than one day, you are better off bringing your own gear if you have room for it or purchasing it locally. Branson has a Bass Pro and 2 Wal Mart stores as well as several other sporting goods stores that sell fishing gear. Cabin numbers 2021 to 2043 have access to the lake directly behind each unit via trails, and you can catch fish off the bank behind these occasionally. You might be better off booking a guided trip on the lake. Rates are available at Branson Missouri Resorts | Big Cedar | Branson Missouri Vacation Lodging.

Swimming in the lake is fine, but you can not swim around the marina or the boat launch. Fishing is also restricted in these areas, but several guests ignore these rules.

The Sight and Sound Theater has a family special you might inquire about before your arrival. It saved me about $25 for my family of four.

                    Mark

We really like June at BC because one day might be hot and muggy, (great for the lazy river which can be a tad on the cold side early in June), then change to cooler weather in the low 60's, that's when the fireplace in the 2br cabins are great to fire up. One Place that i would suggest, is plan a day at Dogwood Canyon for the family. We love to rent bikes and ride the Canyon. Take a good camera because there are some beautiful places to take some really good pictures. They also offer a tram that takes you to where the buffalo and elk roam.
