  • Bluegreen Wilderness Club at Big Cedar next week

Hey all! We are scheduled to head to Wilderness Club at Big Cedar next week arriving on Tuesday May 24 and leaving on Sat. May 28. I have a few questions for all of you seasoned Big Cedar visitors. First of all, what can I expect from the unit we have booked? We are booked in a 1 bedroom connected to a studio. Will we have a balcony/porch? Will we have our own grill or will they be shared grills? Do the units have griddles in the kitchen? How is the Wilderness Club different from Big Cedar? Are the Big Cedar units different or are they all the same, but Bluegreen owns some of the units? What extra costs for activities can I expect? Can anyone post a schedule of planned activities for this time? I can't access this on the website because I only have a trial membership. My daughter is particularly interested in horseback riding. We are also interested in boating and fishing on the lake. Where would be the best/most reasonable place to rent a boat? We will bring our own fishing equipment. Any activities/places that we should not miss while we are there? I am so excited and my children are thrilled! We have been to Table Rock Lake before and stayed at house we rented thru VRBO and had a fabulous time, so we are looking forward to going back. Thanks in advance for any replies! You all are always so helpful!

    Here's the scoop

Horses: if you want to ride, book early as they fill up, especially in nice weather.

Grills: You'll have shared grills in front of your lodge.

Balcony: You'll have 2 - one off the living room of the one bedroom, and one off the studio.

    Griddle: don't think so

Boat Rental: definitely use the marina

Activities: Go to the BigCedar.com website and look at the planned activities there. Look under Activities / Brochures. There are many free activities (pools, lazy river, paddle boats, canoes, etc, sand volleyball, scavenger hunts, mini golf, etc.) and lots of paid stuff (speed boats, fishing tours).

Difference between Big Cedar Lodge and Wilderness Club: You check in at a different place (you'll go to Brushey Creek Clubhouse which has the blue roof) and the units are completely separate, but to look at the resort, you'd never know they're separate. All amenities are shared. I guess one other difference is that they call you a Wilderness Club shuttle if you're staying on the timeshare side and a BCL shuttle if staying at Big Cedar, but it is very seamless.

Any other questions? I'll be there starting on Friday, fyi. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. How early do you need to book for horseback riding? Can we wait until we get there? I did go to the website to check out the activity schedule and it looks as if it hasn't been updated for May yet. I noticed that they have some fitness classes like zumba--do those cost extra? Thanks again for your help!

They made the schedule of activities a little trickier to find.

go to Branson Missouri Resorts | Big Cedar | Branson Missouri Vacation Lodging

        click activities tab

        click brochures

        then click May Week 4

          Question about Grills

Are the grills charcoal or propane grills?
          Thanks!

If you have not been paying attention, we had 19 inches of rain in two weeks, from three weeks ago tomorrow until a week ago tomorrow.

Table Rock set another all time high level record, breaking the floods of three years ago by 3 feet. It got so high on the dam that any higher and they would not be able to access the catwalks to open the gates (the catwalks are at 937 feet above sea level) and the lake was at 935, so they opened the gates farther than they ever have. That severely flooded Taneycomo, including part of Point Royale and Branson Landing.

Yesterday the Corps warned of possible flooding this weekend and next week as five inches-plus of rain is predicted for starting tomorrow.

The difference between now and three weeks ago is that Bull Shoals (the last lake of four) was 20 feet below flood pool when the rains started three weeks ago, so there was place to put all the water, but now it, too, is full, or close. Any significant rainfall in our watershed now has to be passed on directly.

Also, a portion of the earthen part of the dam, on the backside, slid away, mudslide style, so the road over the dam has been closed while they refill that. It is scheduled to re-open tomorrow.

But, if you are like some BC guests, you will not notice any of the above, as you will be in a little world of your own.

Thanks for the flood info and way to rain on my parade. Does this mean that BC will be closed? Do we need to cancel our vacation and loose the money we already paid to Bluegreen?

                jmrenner,

I would not cancel. I would say that it's only the marina that may have some issues with the high water. The rest of the resort should be fine.

Even if the long term forecast calls for rain, remember that beyond a day or two they are just guessing.

Also, the grills at BC are propane.

The grills at Falls Village are charcoal.

Thanks! I was hoping the rest of the resort would be up high enough that the flooding would not affect it. We were at Table Rock during the summer of 2008 and they had been experiencing flooding then, too. We did rent a boat and tried to do some fishing, but had no luck--probably because the waters were so stirred up from all the rain. My husband is not a happy camper because he was really wanting to do some fishing. I'm sure we can still have fun! Thanks for the info. on the grills. That should make my hubby a little happier since he prefers cooking on a propane grill to a charcoal grill. We'll just hope for the best and hope not to float away.
                  Thanks again for the help!

Michelle, I know you have to walk downhill to get to the lake, I'm very doubtful you have anything to worry about. I guess if it kept on raining, it's possible that they may restrict boats from being on the lake though. That would probably be your only concern.

If you have any doubt whatsoever, call the resort directly. They'll tell you what's actually going on.
